Well, actually I'm sure YOU do know you could do these things :) The reason I'm sharing this post is so you can give it to other people who want to know more about Blender. It's a nicely written compact overview.
There's a number of free 3D software packages available to download online. One of the most popular is open source software Blender. Over the last few years, its development has really forged ahead and while many of its idiosyncrasies remain, there’s a lot of good stuff in there of use to CG artists and illustrators.
In fact, the software has come so far in recent years, that Blender enthusiasts all over the world are branching out into 3D movies, currently working on feature animation The Gooseberry project.
You can master the software with this brilliant selection of Blender tutorials. But before you do, read on for some interesting facts about Blender; some you might know, a few you probably won't - and a couple of things that took us by surprise too…

O_O REALLY?!!
>_< Curses! I've been using Blender for decoration on my desktop!
ლ(°Д°ლ) ALL THE WASTED YEARS!
;)
Yep! I bet you didn't know if could do color, did you?
It does COLOR!??! This changes everything.
Whoa, you can actually make 3D shapes! I've just been trying to get it to make smoothies and milkshakes since 2009! Now I know why all my Google search results didn't make any sense.
But can Blender make smoothies? That's what I wanna know.
Haha its great that everyone is joking about how obvious this is, but I think its pretty cool that Blender is getting some recognition as a real 3d suite!
How have I not noticed the render feature in Blender for over 2 years?!
"Of course you know you can create images with Blender, but did you know it has a GPU-accelerated unbiased render engine, called Cycles? As long as you have a CUDA-compliant graphics card, you’ll get realtime rendering in the main display."
It's really is the topic headers that ruin the story, since the actual detail description is just fine as it stands. It's like starting "The Gettysburg Address" with the title "America's colonies became states 87 years ago, isn't that awesome!!!" It wouldn't have changed the power of the address but sure makes it less likely anyone would give it a serious once-over.
Headers like "You can render with it" might have flown in a world of free software that does modeling only, but integrated renderers are common enough that the header should be more distinctive and informative. The actual meat of the story was fine, just ill-served by the headings and introductory sentences.
Does Blender actually need this special treatment from these bloggers? Why can't they just treat it like any of the available 3D softwares? It's not like Blender is the retarded kid from the classroom whose qualities needs to be pointed out. God, I want to punch somebody in the face...
