Blender Developer Rocket Science #2

7

rocket science 2

In this video, PlasmaSolutions explores some noise modifier updates that are SO new that they're not even in 'trunk' (Blender's main source code) yet.

PlasmaSolutions write:

We're extremely happy and so excited to present you our newest Sneak Peek, topic: the noise modifier :)

In this episode

A patch that is extremely cool for all modelers that are creating tiled models that are looking less cg'ish and for all that like to have some irregular geometry - similar to the displacement modifier but superior in several aspects - Go and check it out!

What's it all about

In this series you'll find features that are currently under development and NOT yet included in trunk. Those features are most of the time applicable as a patch from developer.blender.org and they help us at our daily work @ my 3D studio "Plasmasolutions".

We would love to see your opinions and comments on this show... so share and tell us what you like/dislike :)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

In the words of Steve Martin in the hilarious comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels:

"THIS! I want this! THIS is what I want!"

  2. Thought about this modifier some days ago. Big thanks to developers! Probability slider, 'loose parts' checkbox - it seems to be very well composed.

It looks promising for ground covered with leaves as well. I wonder of you can animate that floor setup to show each component rolling and translating to simulate wind suddenly picking up. If sliders are added for velocity and acceleration it should prove very useful for animations.

Perhaps all these new features could be appended into the current Displace Modifier instead of adding a new type.

Either way, It will be a very welcome addition.

    It's really awesome! Thank you!
If you'll add some check for non-intersecting volumes then it will be also "rigid simulation ready"!
