Creating the Red Forest in Blender

17

walkthroughttheredforest

I'm a total sucker for these kind of low-poly worlds. Matt Holbach created 'A Walk Through the Red Forest' and talks us through its creation process in this video.

Matt writes:

This is my First Blender 3d tutorial. This tutorial was requested by @metatomato on Blenderartists.com. I hope this works for everyone sorry if i drag on or if i go to fast over some parts. Leave a comment and i can't wait to see what everyone creates!

Also i forgot to mention in the tutorial, Just rotate the trees on the z axis so they aren't all facing the same direction! Happy blending!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Im not gonna say anything mean or bad about your comment. I am however gonna inform you that i have 3,507 views on my sketchbook. 20 subscribers on youtube as of now and this video has 530 views and counting. If you dont like low poly thats fine but dont go around leaving comments like that on peoples videos just because its something you dont like ok? I flagged your comment and i will personally ask Bart to take your comment down. Thanks.

  1. Thanks for this tutorial. Low poly seems to be quite in vogue recently and it is something I definitely want to learn.

Kage no Ishi..... you are welcome and thank you for subscribing :D and Giovanni, You are welcome and they are very fun to make :D

  2. Awesome... +1 subscriber :D
I can't wait to do my own low poly scene now. By the way, the tutorial sounded great. I think the hardest part about making tutorials for the first time is getting used to talking to a monitor for an hour :P but you didn't seem to have a problem with that. Excellent work!

Thanks StealthHawk :D Im so ready to get started on the theme you picked for the weekend contest :D Thanks for the subscribe!!!!!!!

  3. It is amazing how a low-poly scene like this looks just as appealing, or even more so, than the same scene done realistically. Thanks Matt! Your tutorials great! Can't wait to try out making my own low-poly scenes :D

  4. Thanks Matt for taking your time to do this Tut. There are many great Blender Artists who share their knowledge & skill out there, but some just go so fast, for some of us trying to learn we get lost, and often steps are mnot explained properly. Its nice to have Tut's at a more realistic pace to learn from. Hope you find time to do more, especially these Low Poly ones....they are great :)
