It was an extremely close match this weekend! 'Tribute to Moebius' and '2525: Irene' went head to head and after puzzling a bit on some double votes I believe 'Tribute to Moebius' by Skuax is the winner!
Skuax – you’ll get to pick the topic for next weekend! Please email me at bart @ this site and let me know what everyone should be spending their time on :)
Read on for some of the other cool entries.
Total Legend - 2525: Irene

Congrats to all of you! :)
One of the things I really love about these contests is the creativity displayed by everyone. Everyone has a different take on the theme, and it's really great to see all of the original entries that are submitted!
Yes absolutely. It's one of my favorite things on this site :)
Same! It's a great way to bring the community of Blender-ers (is that a term?) together.
Haha, it's probably a sort of Blender cliché now. "All the creativity and stuff!" Nevertheless, it's true. Hey, that gives me an idea for an image.... XD
By the way, does anyone know of good blender contests similar to the weekend contests that take place during the week or over the span of two weeks or so?
Congratulations to the winner & the runners up :). It really is a lot of talented artists participating in these contests. This must be the weekend with the most participants so far. And it sure is enjoyable to see all of this lovely Blender 3d artwork :). I wonder how many Blendering hours we all spent this weekend... :)
This has definitely been one of my favorite contests so far. Both for the actual process and for seeing the sheer variety and quality of work that people were able to put out in such a short time. Congratulations to Skuax yours was one of my favorite pieces, Its a very unique style and I always enjoy people doing things with Blender that I never would have thought to do.
Congratulations!
Hope to see you next weekend ;)
Congratulations to Skuax!
..and to all other participants.
Many thanks to every body.
and congratulations to the side runners.
can someone clarify, are the submissions determined soley by votes or are they actually judged? because i feel that puts later submissions at a disadvantage
Just by the number of votes so yes, there's some bias there. I can't lock down voting though..
How about collecting the entries and posting them all on a day after the deadline so they can all be voted on at once? That would normalize a lot of these variables and it closer to how the more 'official' contests are normally executed.
I could keep the comments closed until Monday, is that what you mean? Me personally collecting all the material, publishing it and then going through the comments to count votes every week is not really an option :-/
Something in the middle perhaps. Stay tuned.
I see where you're coming from. I also feel that the later entries are put at a disadvantage, as people don't wait to vote. However, I like to think of it as a contest to see who can create the best image fastest.
However, you are right that it does seem that many people do not take time to look at all of the entries before voting. On the flip side, as Bart said, it would be a real pain for him to have to collect all of the material, publish, and count votes on it (I should know, I've done it before XD).
Perhaps one way to do it is to say that everyone who has to vote has to comment on all of the entries ("good job" "lighting is a bit off" etc. for those who want to write short comments). However, that might be really hard, depending on how many entries are received. Another way to do it might be to tell/encourage people to look at all of the entries in the opening post to the contest. It won't be a perfect system, but it might be a bit of an improvement.
What do you guys think?
