Joe Shanahan shares this time lapse in which he creates a Flappy Bird (the insanely succesful iPhone game) in a little over one hour.
Joe writes:
Worried about the news that Flappy Bird is going to be taken down from the app store? Well don't be, because you could just make your own version of it in a single hour! In 3D! For free!
This video has been sped up by a factor of 40, I started from scratch and had not attempted to make this before starting. My final time was around 1 hour 5 minutes. I have never played Flappy Bird before.
Made with Blender (free) and programmed (badly) with Python.
Made to prove a point. To myself.Music from Incompetech.com

Looks better than the original ;)
Indeed! That's a very nice outcome.
I just heard about flappy bird yesterday, yet somehow it's the most popular game ever? And it's already deleted? I feel like I just crawled out from under a rock. LOL
Heh, you've done it :) It seems that sometimes less is more, very addictive gameplay coming from the simplest concept. And your version is very nice.
Too bad we can't have BGE games on iOS. Impressive work for 1hr though
Unity is free ;)
But not for mobile, you need to get pro. There's Godot now though http://www.godotengine.org/wp/?page_id=20 :D
"The free version of Unity for Windows. Includes publishing support for iOS, Android, Windows Store, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, desktop and Web, and a 30 day trial of Unity Pro (with Pro publishing for iOS, Android, Windows Store, Windows Phone and BlackBerry)."
