3D printing technology is booming and more people are interested in learning how to create 3D models ready for printing.

Since many people purchase or build open source 3D printers, it only makes sense that they will also use free and open source 3D modeling tools!

Two new courses aim to introduce makers and jewel making artists to 3D printing with Blender as the main modeling tool.

Blender modeling for 3D printing at XLN Tel Aviv (aimed at makers and hackers)

The first course, which starts on January 21st, is aimed at makers and will teach basic and advanced polygonal modeling, as well as an introduction to printing techniques and technologies. The 24 hour long course will span 12 two hour long sessions, hosted at hacker and makerspace "XLN Tel Aviv".

Digital Jewel-making (Blender modeling for 3D printing at the Ort Singalovski College)

The second course, which starts in February, is the first college level Blender course in Israel. It will be conducted in the Ort Singalovski College, where students will learn how to design and model jewels in 3D. The 6 months long course includes an in depth study of polygonal modeling, NURBS modeling, sculpting, 3D printing techniques and technologies theory and an introduction to 3D rendering, totalling 96 hours.

I see Adobe has started to add some very basic 3D-printing-related stuff to Photoshop CC.

Of course, Blender was there first. :)
