This character is from a successful french MP3 serie called "Le Donjon de Naheulbeuk" invented by PenOfChaos. It's a parody that caricature the universe of the RPGs games. Then it was ported in a strip cartoon and is currently produced in 3D by Nomad-Films (sneak peek) onMyMajorCompany. This creation was done from the artwork they did for the official 3D version, i tried to be as close as possible to the Disney/Pixar style.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    • @ wazoo : That's odd?
Why only these 3 were made with Blender and not the others? Or why these
3 were the only not made with Maya? I mean what these three have
      different that the others haven't?

      • No, just the fact I was the only one who worked on blender, the other worked ont maya with a lot of crashs ^^
It was just to say that blender was used for this serie ^^

        • Thank you! :)

You've worked on the original elf of the serie
right? Someone told me than 4 peoples had worked on it.

And i laugh about the details about the several
crashs that had occurred for the Maya users of the serie, an important mention to say that Blender is completely viable and stable in large project of CG animation. :)

          • 3 peoples for the main characters I think, i'm not sure. I made 3 characters and finalise one.
Yes, 0 crash on blender, it's so good !
After, it's hard to return maya, we forget the crashes and don't be carrefull and chrases ^^

          • For the sake of easier discusion if you don't mind Wazou, aka Cedric (yeah i know you. ;) ), i'm going to continue this in french, because althought i'm not that bad in english, i'm not has fluent has i want to be.

  1. "i tried to be as close as possible to the Disney/Pixar style."

Why? Every time I have to sit through another Pixar film (with my two small children) I despair at Pixar's obvious re-use of assets from previous films, failure to bother texturing stuff nicely (e.g. horses) and their general lack of innovation. Please, don't copy that tired old 'every-creature-has-huge-eyes' Pixar style - innovate!

    • I think you're talking more Pixar's latest stuff. Their classic stuff like Finding Nemo or The Incredible resists much of your comment. As for re-use of assets, you don't want your sequels to look vastly different from the previous movie, though Toy Story 3 did look noticeably more improved than its previous two movies. As for a style, well, it's a style. It's their thing. That's what they do. Most animation studios out there (of any sort) usually stick to a general style.
