What a weird feature!
By the way, you can hide the unwanted objects in Cycles simply by deselecting the relevant scene layer in the renderlayer setup. Cycles by default seems to be set to render all scene layers, not just the ones you’re looking at, unlike BI.
Um, not, that’s not quite the right explanation. Nevertheless, the technique works. :)
Cycles renders the visible layer just as the BI. If you're using Cycles you'd put the objects you don't want to see on another layer that you're not rendering, it's a good idea to do that for the BI for organization purposes. You might consider moving the source objects you're using as characters to another scene, that'd work if you're using Cycles but then it'd break when using the BI, so I prefer using layers so I can switch between the two renderers.
And how you can actually export them as ttf for example?
TTF is not 3D.
@schwanzuslongus:disqus This functionality is for use within Blender.
@lawrence: I know ;)
@John: ok. First thought of mine was that there is a mega function to create own fonts in Blender like you can do it with Inkscape. Thanks though.
@schwanzuslongus:disqus That's cool that Inkscape can do that!
