Mathieu Auvray will direct the new Blender Institute open movie

Ton Roosendaal just announced that Mathieu Auvray will direct the next Blender Institute open movie, Gooseberry.

Mathieu has proven to be a very talented artist (check out some of his work) and I’m looking forward to seeing him leave his mark on this project.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Community Lead at n8n.

I gather this is going to take a couple of years to put together a full feature-length movie.

Ton’s timing is pretty good, though. Think of projects like “Caminandes” stepping in to keep up the stream of shorter Blender-based projects. :)

From what I’ve heard so far, there’s no specific focus on VFX or live action in Gooseberry.
