Kampoong Monster Studio from Indonesia presents the trailer of their upcoming production.

Aditia A. Pratama writes:

Our studio is called Kampoong Monster Studio. We got funded by telkom indonesia to continue our previous animation. The target of this animation is a short movie. For now, we got permission to release the trailer only while the animation is in progress.

The story is a about an adventure of a young girl named Vienetta with her pet Nagi traveling through mysterious island in Indonesia. We use Blender to model and rig characters, animations, texturing, shading and rendering. For the background we use Photoshop. The effect are manually drawn using Toon Boom. As the compositing software we uses both Blender and After Effects.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

I like the gamelan-sounding music—fits the theme nicely.

I was just reading in “New Scientist” that the cause of the Little Ice Age around the 13th century has been tracked down to a volcanic eruption on the island of Lombok in 1257. This was described in a Javanese manuscript of the time which said it destroyed a now-forgotten mountain named Samalas, as well as bringing about the end of a local kingdom.

Samalas, Tambora, Krakatoa ... Indonesia seems to have more than its share of literally world-changing explosive events. :)

  2. It's a peculiar style. They seem to be keeping the character animation on twos and threes to better mimic the look of traditional animation (usually, cartoon-shaded 3d stuff stands out because it's rendered in ones), contrasting with smooth camera movements. The result is a bit weird.
    The designs look good, though.

    • Cel-shaded animations are a dime a dozen, and it's very hard to stand out from the myriad of "toon-style" animated 3D elements. At least, it's not like the buttery-smooth animations such toon-style 3D animations tend to be, which, to me, tends to completely lose any real "2D animation" sense about them. I think after a while of watching the final product, it'll feel more like a style than an effect.

  3. It has a really great look, with very high production values. Too bad this wasn't around for the Blender conference:) Will this be subtitled in english at any time?
