Blender 2.69 Splash

The splash screen for Blender 2.69 has just been committed to trunk – here’s the image you’ll be seeing a LOT over the next few months :) We expect 2.69 RC to be released soon! (Hat tip to Sebastian König)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Community Lead at n8n.

I think 3D Blender 2.9 is bringing some great improvements.
The splash should be equally great..
in my opinion this splash do not represents 2.9 greatness.

Yep! 2.9 will be a great version.
But for now I’ll be happy with 2.69.

  but seriously why is it always a dark photo and a dark theme?
  bright up this thing its better for the eyes “meaning healthier” i think.

Sorry to drag the topic into this thread TOO, but I can’t help imagining those kids as the poor scared Blender first-timers Andrew is talking about:) “Holy macaroni guys, look at all those buttons…”

The image itself is very nice, but yet again it reinforces the impression that Blender is a toy for making bug-eyed Shrek-like characters, when it so much more.

  the splash screen needs to reflect what the software is capable of doing and the fact that the image comes from an animated short made with the software doesn’t reinforce anything negative, I think it shows versatility and capability which is what I’m looking for in a 3D package.

    Not just an animated short… a 100 minute feature-length movie! Can’t find anything about its release date.
    So yes, I’d say the message of this splash screen is that Blender can do a feature-length animated film.

The previous splash was way better imo, although I’m pretty excited for the new version.
