Blenderheads in Minneapolis are meeting this Sunday!
John Fino writes:
Interested in building blender from source? At our next meeting we'll step through getting blender downloaded, and built using cmake on an Ubuntu Linux machine.
If we have time we can talk about patches, both how to apply them and how to create them. You too can get started contributing to blender.
The meeting, as usual is at the U of M, Minneapolis, Keller Hall, Room 1-260.
Also, stop by our new website at www.minnbug.org as well as our new forums to say hi and see what the group is up to.
Do you want to start your own Blender meetup?
Check out our 'Usermeetings near YOU' page to see how you can register a town, get in touch with local Blender users and get your own Blender meetup going.

What is the benefit of building from source ?
I asume running from both windows and linux that its installer for any many version is as fast as the building from source, ..if not .. then is it an idea to put in the installer some choices, so a proper version gets downloaded and installed ?
PGTART - that's a good question. I'll ask on Sunday and report back. I suspect it has to do with adding certain features not in other builds, or removing features, or maybe even making a version of Blender that can create a crash log - for bug finding/reporting/fixing.
yes! adding features, hacking, optimization, all kinds of stuff!
hopefully i'll see ya sunday. i've been on the MinnBug list for like a year but haven't made it out yet. i finally figured out how to build blender the other month and created a custom feature. i'll bring it along to show.
