Felipe Cea shares his thesis project.

Felipe writes:

Camanchango is my thesis project, (thanks to it I´m a designer now). All begins with a myth about a strange cloud at the top of a giant mountain. All sky can be clear even in summer, but that mist its alway there. so I put some information together an a story for a film emerge. after you watch the film, the best part is that place exist in real life, and you can watch the horizon, every day and feel the magic of it.

I think I´m going too deep... hahahaha!

Maybe it's better to explain technical stuff so here I go.

When i was thinking about how the film will look, I want it to be enjoy it like an old tale book. "A long time ago" "in far land" "happy forever" or "curse forever" sentences, like a bed time story. So I decided to make the film to look hand painted book. I always think we (3d artist) have the responsibility to not let the program (software) do all the work, and not get drunk of all that power that a software can gave us (Blender is a very powerful tool to work) as a designer always have to think before do, choose a language and then DO THE THING. so before starts to get in Blender, I was about 5 months working on how Camanchango will look.

And after a year working alone... The film was finally finished. The idea was to finish the film with a narrator voice, but I can't afford it, so I have to finish it with subs... some times when you work in a project... you have just to let it go.

And a few days ago I uploaded to Vimeo and show it in Blenderartist.com

And...thats it...!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    • Thanks, Roberto. I hope to some day work with more artists on bigger projects, but even on Camanchango, I was not a "one person team." I handled the entire visual part by myself, but a film is nothing without music, and Leeran Z. Raphaely did an amazing job on Camanchango in no time (less than two weeks). The film wouldn't be the same without his work.

Again, thanks for all your kind words!

  1. Technically it's very good! I think it's great for one artist and made in so short time. The script is good. It's nice and sweat but the story is a bit too easy. I've didn't felt his risk and didn't really seen big dangers he had overcome. A warm and kind narrator's voice could be really great to hear, it's true.
Think about it like a positive critic and on the next project maybe you'll think deeper about those parts.
    Anyway... Congratulations!

  2. I've never been a fan of sub titles, narratives are a little better, but I would prefer to hear characters talk, but I'd say that you pulled it off pretty good. I enjoyed your film, although I do agree with Moolah, there could have been a bit more action. I thought your characters were modeled very well. They had a primal, aboriginal look to them. Over all I'd say, very well done!!!

  3. Hey, very nice work... Do you know some people do voice over work for free?
Google: "voice acting club". The first result is a forum board with people that will do voice over just for fun, you can listen their voices beforehand to pick up those you like and contact them for an audition.
