Video: Ray & Clovis

7

David Andrade from Theory Animation shared their animation series 'Ray & Clovis' at the Blender Birds of a Feather meeting at SIGGRAPH this year. He got a great reception and is now sharing the first two episodes.

David writes:

We're Theory Animation. As artists and developers we were frustrated by having to move around the world from job to job to do what we love. We thought there had to be a better way, where we could work from where-ever, whenever. With this idea, Theory was born. We have people working all over North America with a few in Europe and Brazil.

Ray & Clovis is our premiere web series about Ray, an iguana who wants to make it in show business, and his cat roommate Clovis who somehow is world famous on the internet. We were inspired by great early 90's cartoons like Rocko's Modern Life and Animaniacs; we aim to bring these kinds of fun cartoons.

For animation production we use Blender. It represents everything dear to us: Awesome, Robust and Collaborative It became increasingly difficult to manage Maya versions and licenses with artists world wide on our first short film, Nuts for Pizza. We decided to use Blender since everyone would have access to the latest and greatest. It was a very strong program for animation, the tools were great and community has been a large help. We render in Cycles.

We're building out a YouTube channel for cartoons and tutorials. I invite anyone who is interested in collaborating on a project remotely to email me; or if they have a Blender piece they'd like to be featured on our channel. You can reach us at [email protected]

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
