3Dami Summer School Students Present Their Work

2

Students of the 3Dami summer school in London learned to use Blender and produced two short movies in seven days. I think it's impressive to see what these kids learned to do in only a few days.

Tom SF Haines writes:

3Dami has just finished running for its second year. We had 17 students, 15-18 years old, who produced two short films in only 7 days:

We gave them complete responsibility to create the script and storyboard it before using Blender for modelling, animation and putting it all together. They were split into two teams, one for each film, containing students ranging from novice to advanced. We required that they submit a portfolio before attending however, to verify they had at least tried Blender out and could use it, if only at a basic level. Much like last year we had to deal with a crazy amount of enthusiasm!

The whole event ran at UCL Engineering in the computer science department, and included visits from industry and a trip to their cave (All round virtual reality environment.). At the end they premièred their films to a sizeable audience. To find out more please visit our website, 3dami.org

Since we ran it in 2012 the event has expanded, and we intend to expand further next year. We always need more volunteers and industry links, so if anyone reading this is interested then feel free to contact us: [email protected] or @3damistudios

  1. procuded -> produced. Also, the UCL engineering link, 3Dami link and twitter link don't work on account of stray " at the end of the urls.

I will take this opportunity to say that the team behind the 'Hook, Line and summer' short are thinking about polishing it - its a good idea, and they lost a lot of shots (some of which were fully animated) in the rush to put it together for the premier - I really hope that they do. Thanks for posting!
