We are happy to present our short film "Lost Senses" by Marcin Wasilewski. It's probably the first professional film produced by Polish animation studio, with the support from Polish Film Institute, made completely in Blender and it has already won Jury Award at SIGGRAPH 2013!
"Lost Senses" is a short story set in an abstract world, inspired by Giorgio De Chirico'spaintings and grotesque art and essays by Roland Topor. It's a metaphor of modern world disturbed by chaos of information. While chasing A Woman, our hero, A Man with a bowler hat, runs like a parkour practitioner climbing up on the buildings. He doesn't know he's going to loose his senses completely and literally.
"Lost Senses" was produced by Grupa Smacznego, a boutique studio from Gdansk, Poland, founded in 2004. The studio creates mostly 2D animation for children (with the most recent animated series "Mami Fatale" made in Toon Boom) and multimedia. They entered international animated market in 2008 making "Harry and Toto" TV series, based on original idea and stories by Paul Shuttleworth.
"Lost Senses" is their début with 3D software. Since completed in February 2013 the film has been visiting the festivals around the world :)
The film was directed by Marcin Wasilewski, with the screenplay by Robert Jaszczurowski and Lukasz Kacprowicz, design and characters' models by Marcin Wasilewski and Jakub Szczesniak (who is also 3D supervisor and lead animator). The original music was written by Jacaszek.

Nice use of 3D for a beautiful rendering.
The "making of" of a scene :

Thanks! I added it to the post.
Excellent use of the new contouring capabilities of Blender. The surroundings are in the spirit of de Chirico, but I would have gone for a much slower mood as the forced speed of the actions destroys the atmosphere of the scene a bit.
And of course I would have loved to see your artistry in a much LONGER work of art !
Sorry to admit it, but I didn't notice that it was only a TRAILER for the animation movie itself (which may go at a much slower speed in its plot line).
And I understand that showing the whole work online could drastically reduce its chances to be shown at some festivals. We'll just have to be patient and wait a little longer ;-) .....
Good point, I've updated the title of the post. Thanks!
That's the catch - the movie was made in Blender 2.62(official build so NO Freestyle:)) just recently we started to use Freestyle in more recent projects(Mami Fatale for example). But Lost Senses was made without any Non-Photorealistic render like Freestyle - the visuals look this way thanks to old school composting and 2d painted textures:). Anyway i wonder how it would look like if would use Freestyle back then.
cheers.

Thanks to Piotr Arlukowicz who organised 2013 Polish Blender Conference - there is also a video on which i explain how the movie was made(It's 40 min. long)
