Blender dives into 3D printing industry

2

Editmode_mesh_statvis_overhangLibre Graphics World covers the recent 3D Printing additions in Blender. I was lucky enough to be interviewed, as was Dolf Veenvliet [macouno].

Alexandre Prokoudine writes:

Blender 2.67 was released last week with a 3D printing toolbox. LGW spoke to Dolf Veenvliet, Bart Veldhuizen (Shapeways, Blendernation), and Rich Borrett (Ponoko) about the new tools and the future of 3D printing.

As one of the impressively fast growing industries, 3D printing is lately all the rage in the press. Let's start with the basics. What do we know about 3D printing anyway? [..] Where does Blender fit into this picture?

Thanks Alexandre!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
