Hey I'm a fellow Blender user and wanted to pass along this awesome opportunity for 3D designers using open source software.
Thingiverse, Makerbot's 3D design sharing site is holding a challenge to create 3D designs for parametric objects for use with the new Makerbot Customizer app. The designs are created using the open source tool OpenSCAD. There are three categories: Artistic, Useful, and Wearable and the best design in each category will win a Makerbot Replicator 2X Desktop 3D Printer! This is Makerbot's latest printer just revealed at CES a few weeks ago. It is capable of printing in two colors or materials at once and retails for $2,799.00. All of the details of the challenge can be read here.
Here's a video of the printer in action:
Hope everyone is having a great week!
Happy Blendering :)

oh man, talk about a cool device :-)
Cool! Is this the 3D printer that recently got the "Respects Your Freedom" certification from the FSF?
Yes, this is very interesting device. Many artists used 3d printer. For example, veterobot.com (opensource project) - all body parts modeling in blender and printed to 3d printer. All the models (original Blender files and generated STL files) are freely available from git repository.
