I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Community Lead at n8n.
I don’t think it actually is 2.49, just 2.5/6 with an old blend file that still has the UI panel set to horizontal. I’ve seen this appearance when I open older files in 2.6 sometimes.
Their prototype seems to be an alternative to the Leap from Leap Motion but it has to be connected to an iPhone in order to work. It does cost less then the leap but not everyone has an iPhone.
Why would you need a special device for this? iPhones can connect over wifi, Androids may be able connect over bluetooth as well, and both can be had with gyroscopes.
I don’t think the usability will be great though as it is hard to keep the phone steady when editing something.
