BlenderNation is 7 Years Old!

27

old blendernation logoDang, I missed it - BlenderNation had its birthday last week!! What started as an experiment has grown into a serious part of work - for the last seven years I have spent almost every single day sifting through Blender news and posting it here. I'm still enjoying it a lot, but as you can imagine it takes a lot of time to maintain this site.

That's why I'm asking for a small gesture of support: if you're ever ordering something from Amazon.com (the US site), please consider going through this affiliate link (you'll also find it on the homepage). That'll give me a small percentage of every sale, without disclosing any personal information. The credits are used for gifts for my family ;-) Thanks!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Cool, late happy birthday BlenderNation! And thanks and congrats to Bart for all the hard work put into this site! I'll do my best to remember that link for my Amazon purchases from now on :)

  2. Congratulations Bart.
I added the link to my bookmarks so I can access Amazon easily via your credit. Love your site and your work.
Thanks so much and happy Birthday!

  3. Thank you Bart for all your hard work, having been a website admin from time to time I know how many hours you are putting into behind the scenes that lots of people don't see. Thank you for making Blender and the community more accessible to all!

  4. Happy birthday!
I just registered to post this message, but I have followed BlenderNation when I discovered Blender in January 2012. Since then, not only have I been able to keep up to date on the latest and greatest in Blender news, but I've learned a great deal from the links to others that you have provided.

Ah to be seven again. But today, I'm just an old war horse who served 21 years in the Marines with more than three years in combat many many years ago. To put into perspective, I was a platoon commander in Vietnam 44 years ago. Most of my aches and pains today are from those hard years as a Marine.

I only say this because I suspect you are going through something similar on the civilian side. Blender Nation was probably difficult to start, has required most of your time to maintain, and there have been--and will be--many challenges along the way.

Like me, I hope you will look back 40 or so years from now and remember the dedication it took, the wonderful people who you inspired, the job that you did, the risks you took, the people you served; and say to yourself, "if I could do it all again, I would."

I've lived a very full and interesting life. There's been good, there's been bad, there's been the incomprehensible. But if I could do it all again without knowing the outcomes, I would. I've had the honor of working with the finest people on the face of the Earth--who could ask more?.

Best of luck to Blend Nation.

I hope I'm still around for your 20th.

  5. Congratulations BlenderNation and Bart!!! I visit this site every day to see the blender news!! It´s a very useful and organized website, thanks for your amazing work!!

  6. It's a stupendous site Bart!

    Keep on truckin'!

I'm always ordering ebooks from Amazon and various other weird stuff (google amazon oddities). I'll bookmark that link and use it for now on. =]

  7. Weee! Belated Happy Birthday, BN! And thanks for the effort, contribution, and inspiration, Bart!

I'll definitely bookmark that page that you have mentioned and will use it whenever I have the opportunity.

    Thanks so much! :D

  8. Congrats, Bart! BlenderNation's a pivotal part of the Blender community, and without it, I wouldn't have even got my first real introduction to Blender some years some.

I'll make a note of that affiliate link next time I order sometimes from Amazon. ;)

  9. Along with Google, BlenderNation is the only other site I visit daily! I find the developer meeting notes are the most interesting.

I'm surprised the Blender foundation (via Blendernation) doesn't launch a regular poll to ask the user base what features they use most, or why they use Blender. A software company that sends me a monthly newsletter always includes a poll, giving the result the following month along with the next question. It's often interesting to see that the big features the company thinks are important are not always what most users actually want!

I hope that affiliate link is still good, I just bought a TV through it :)
Hopefully that helps you guys somehow.
