Meet Matthew Muldoon from Blend Swap in this interview by Gottfried Hofmann.

Gottfried Hofmann writes:

Matthew Muldoon is the founder of BlenderSwap.com - a site where Blender users can up- and download .blends that are licensed under Creative Commons Licenses or even Public Domain. BlenderDiplom talked with him about his incentive to create the site, his thoughts on CC and commercial use and what the plans for the future of BlendSwap are.

My favorite quote from this article:

The Guys/Girls of Blend Swap are AMAZING!! Blender really does have one of the most amazing communities I have ever seen. I’ve been around for a while and have been witness to many different communities like After Effects, Design, Mograph, even C4D and none of them can hold a candle to the Blender users.

Oh yeah.

  1. Really interesting article. I love Blendswap, and I'm really looking forward to see what level you guys take it to. And hey don't undermine yourself, I reckon quite a bit of the content gets used in commercial work by artists. Especially the CC-0 license like the model I uploaded where one doesn't HAVE to give credit, in which case one just wouldn't know. The 3d medium is not limited to animations etc that one might see online or elsewhere, lots of stuff gets used commercially in print media which is local. In my case I've done my own modelling, but it wouldn't matter since the only people who saw it were local, or in a certain niche in a specific country. So word doesn't always get out. I reckon in most cases it doesn't.
