56

Everybody had FUN last week in our mini-contest, so let's have another one. As this is our last week on this Earth, we'll go with Nazzareno's suggestion for this weekend's theme: "The Maya Were Right". Again, +1 your favorite in the comments. The winner will be announced on Monday and will get his work shown in a header on the site later next week. Have fun, and enjoy the weekend!!

  1. The Maya were right about what? Interestingly, they never predicted anything significant will happen on Dec. 21, it's just the end of one calendar and the beginning of a new one. People put too much emphasis on the Hollywood hype. :P

  2. Conversation with adam on 12/3/2012 2:42:21 PM:

luke: we should have gone to the golf driving range today - except i think they are closed for the season (silly)

adam: Oh yea! It's like April out!

luke: maybe it IS April - ever think of THAT? =D

adam: Haha! And our system of keeping track of months and days is all screwy.

luke: Maybe the Mayans didn't predict the end of the world, but rather just realized the rest of the world was SO terrible at keeping dates, they gave up on making calendars.

adam: Haha! Agreed. April it is. (I think)

adam: Whenever we say the date, we should just start by saying possibly.

luke: I mean, You could be a master gourmet chef, but if everyone was always going to mcdonalds instead, You might feel like giving up too - lol McCalendar McApril

adam: Haha! Seriously. What did their calendars go for, like 2500 years? And here we're trying to pass off 1 year calendars on people?

    adam: Fast food of timekeeping

luke: right - modern calandar of profit driven... every year the old calendar is obsolete... helps calendar sales... Mayan calander was good for how man centuries? lol no profit there

luke: they went out of business

    adam: Haha!

luke: it was their fiscal cliff - whole culture based on calendar sales - it's why they disappeared

    luke: mystery solved. you're welcome.

  3. My Birthday coming up on Dec 18th.

    nothing will happens. lol
    nobody know when that happens.
Blender Dev, Please keep working on new 2.66.

  4. If you go with the "end of the world" theme.. from a Blender perspective, would that be a rendering of everyone in the world using Maya 3D? =)

"The Maya [software developers/publishers] Were Right" would have to be the headline on some newspaper in the render for such an entry to make a proper pun at the mini-contest name.

    • Ok, while it wouldn't matter for actual contest either way.. here is a partial realization of my idea as a fictitious newspaper front page.

There is some other funny (IMO) add on [fake, we hope] articles in it with the same "end of the world" theme to help fill out the rest of the space. If done in an real entry it might have been a close-up of a newspaper left on a park bench or something with this as the texture.
