Tutorial: Rocket Plane Modeling for Beginners – Me163 Komet

A basic modeling tutorial by Weelian Soh.

This is beautiful , I am looking forward to build my own . Thanks much .
This may be for beginners, but I’m going to file this away for later and hopefully improve on it.
Why the plains. You can use background images an control the scaling and modeling that way for the views from the blue print.
After watching your setup of your scene i don’t agree. Its a very long way to setup the scene before you can start to work. Using background images is msh better and they not in the way in the 3d view.
It is a matter of personal preference I guess, but I disagree that this method takes longer to set up, I’m doing a step by step tutorial here so it may appear slow to you, after all this video is geared towards beginning modeling learners. You can use the background image method if you find seeing the image planes in the 3 views distracting you can hide them in layers (M key), or use “/” in Numpad to isolate the mesh or use ALT+B to focus on one section. Another limitation of the Background image method is that you can’t rotate the image or flip it. Meaning if you switch to the Right view or bottom view, the image still faces the same direction.
Besides, there is also a plugin that will generate those image planes automatically for you:

thx for tutorial and about those refence images I was using backround images for long time myself but since I learnt about empties holding images I slowly migrate to this option because I could line up images better this way and I could see them all the time not only from in limited number of views or lose them when I’m in perspective mode.
Exactly, although the traditional method of using Background images in Ortho view is fine, you can’t interactively rotate, scale or flip them. I also used the “import images as plane” option before, but you have to set different display properties for the objects and also you can’t control the transparency using that method. That is why this method of using Emptys as image references is superior. By the way I want to credit Sacha Goedegebure (BBB Director) for showing me this method.
Hello Weelian,
I have just followed Your tutorial almost successfully, – there are still som dents to iron out, but it looks now almost like a rocket airplane. In principle Your procedure is very sophisticated, – I just was successull to implempent some errors wich left me completely lost, I had to begin from fresh 3 times, – Your conception of space in blender must be very superior to mine. I have decided to fabricate a separate image for every axis and name it accordingly, but that is only a remedy for the stupid, not a real improvement.
Thanks for the enlightenment!
