I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Just when I thought there couldn't possibly be any more terrible anime cliches, it gave me more terrible anime cliches.

I appreciate the animation, but I'm not sure what the point of this is.

  2. Something I forgot to mention.

Eventough I said these kind of posts keep trashing the way blender and the others apps are seen by others. I must congratulate Bart by not doing this as often as he, or whoever, did before. The other posts that have been showing to us. Man, thay kept blowing my mind! So good not to see as often bad posts like this one. I hope someday I just have to write: "Blendernation doesn't show mediocre blender news, they put in great breaking blender news." Someday, someday.

    • Start your own newsfeed, choose your own stories. If you do a better job than Bart can and get the word out, people will make the switch from Blendernation to your site.

      • Wow! dude, no disrespect, but what are you talking about? I never said I could do a better job than Bart. I actually said that this was a little slip in the good record he have been keeping until now. Seriously! is like I can't have a bad opinion on anything around here! Or more like you guys can't accept a bad comment about this place, OPEN UP YOUR MINDS. I mean I though this place was made to say what you think freely.

I syould appeal to the old saying: "You learn more from the mistakes than the successes". -Confucious

And here 's another one: " A true friend tells you the truth of his mind all the time, eventough is hurtful. But always with care." -Also Confucious

Well, that's totally my intention, but you people keep watching it as a hollow attack because of an attack. It is a strong opinion on something in which I include a compliment by the way. I think you guys involve to much emotions when you read these comments, but, well, I empathaize because I care a lot for this applications for what they represent: FREEDOM. So, I feel free to speak my mind for good or bad too. And I have a porpouse, to show what I think can be corrected or become better, not necessarily bad, to keep a high standard application and also a great high class inviting news site that support the greatness of the application we like a damn lot.

So, again not disrespect, but think more in depth when you get a hars comment, because there is a treasure of knowledge and also the path to become more mature. It is hard, but the good stuff of life always is.

        • Also, something I have notice recently, when I wirte these kind of comments, hard but truthful. In which I speak my mind with no restrictions. People never get the message behind what I'm trying to get. I keep doing these comments like that, harsh, because I get passionate of what I think. And I want people to become passionate too, not against me obviously, but about what they love, as I do. I get passionate about the way Blender is seen by others, which normally is hurt by the fact that it doesn't cost a cent. So when I see bad work been glorified by these news, which are the main news of Blender, for me is like hurting the project itself.

Also I intend people to get that others are going to bash what they do, that's for sure. Not everything is going to be honey on flakes. And everyone should become strong enough to get it. But I'm not just mean, I puntualize what I think should be improved. So, is not a hollow attack againt the blender news or the persone responsable of the model, animaction, tutorial..., I have already mentioned in other comment, theythat Blendernation doesn't portray these kind of comments as often as they did in the past. Thanks for that, Bart, and community reporters (Actually I'm not that sure about having community reporters for this exact reason, at least not without a certification of some kind). In the past, there were like three per week. And I was like: "Dude! that work is terrible! why they post it here! They'll damage the image of Blender." But as I said, it's not as frequent as before. Now is like 1 in 2-3 months, great improvement.

Will I stop making harsh comments? Don't count on that. But I want you to know that I have always a reason to make these hard cold insensitive comments. Because I care. This is like the mother bird throwing off the nest her little babies, she needs to throw them because they need lo learn to do that NOW and to start surviving NOW to have succes in their lives, or else they'll be death in a week. And well I'm hard because life is hard and everyone needs to endure. I sure have to endure all the strikes you guys throw me when I think you should be by my side saying: "yeah, this dude is right! We should demand better stuff, and also become better ourselves". But I think people normally just see the surface and don't stop to think more in depth the meaning of the "attack". Is the blindness of the understanding, the separation by levels of the human comprehension. Some people are geniuses, others have a hard time tying up their shoelaces. Is bad? Not necessarily, people become impresive because they work with what they have. Example: the Paralimpic games or the guys with no arms who do an everyday life just like everyone else.

But, for those who can think things trough the superficial meaning, do it. Think beyond the borders of the simplistic hard message. In my case is always hard because it implies care and also hope and I don't want this project to go down.

          See ya!

          • How kind of you Mamma bird :P I find your last post extremely patronizing.

I completely agree with you that there is value in constructive criticism. For it to be constructive there has to be reasoning behind it(Which is what you did). It also helps not to be overly harsh or hurtful.

Here on blendernation you will get attacked for being critical regardless whether it is constructive or not.

        • Actually I'm being serious. It sounds like you've tapped into something good here as far as standards go and if you could build an alternative website around it I think it could be successful.

        • (Which also ties into freedom of choice being a good thing. I didn't even think your observations were all that harsh, it looks like we are miscommunicating.)

        • @TheEmptyRoom
Thanks for the comment. I actually wait for strikes back when I comment these kind of stuff. And I like not to smooth things out because I feel everyone around here is too nice wherther the post is good or bad and don't tell the parts they think are wrong, when I 'm harsh I'm more straight and nitpick alot. That's why I keep in mind people will criticize my criticsback harshly, and alot of times they are completely nonsensical or overnitpick.

So you are telling me, whatever I say you won't be open to accept criticism, even if it's not harsh? So why let people comment then?

Patronizing is not what I intended, I guess it looks loike it, but I seriously think a lot of times people get my intentions totally backwards. Heck, I'm so used to that that I took instantly the message of Chrome Monkey as an attack. Surely it could be taken like that.

          @Chrome Monkey
Thanks for settleing things down by the way. Yeah, I got that one wrong. Thanks for telling me.

Thanks for believing in me to make one, right now I'm very busy to keep one daily. But I'll keep it in mind. Anyway there are a lot of very good blender related news feeds like adventures in blender and animationem (the last one being in spanish only).

        • Well, I guess you mean that always will revcceive criticism good or bad, ,which is great. But I havn't seen any bad criticism, and surely nothing hard like mine.

Also, I like to be harsh because pepole reacts, as I said. That way I made some students of mine to prove themselves by making them angry against me. And they gave me the best works I have gotten until now. And also here I think Bart and the reporters has improven the site too, so well, is hard but I see the rewards.

  3. I loved it , It was super sweet . Thats exactly how I felt with my Xgirl . Army full of creepyass jerks were all against our love . Well anywhat , one missing part though all that super awesome gold and diamond shaders at blendswap , I see no rings on her finger , whats up with that :)

  4. I don't think cheesy is the right word for it, its...unusual to say the least. I do like the animation though and the integration of 2D and 3D elements.

  5. Hello everyone!
I'm Marco Antonio and I participated in Morevna Project with animation and some soldier-characters modifications. My shots are
    Getting up soldiers: 01:41 - 01:47
    Slow Dance 03:05-03-10
Dance with helicopters 03:19-03-26 (I only animated the dance)

I had enjoyed a lot work wih the Morevna team, it was a good experience and awesome team.

About my work I can say that all critics are good to improve my animations, and thank for watching!

    Saludos

  6. The intro to this video needs to be sped up. Try making it about 1/3 as long.

This goes along with a more general idea of paying attention to the pacing throughout the video . . . try to think how the speed of the action "feels" to the audience. Try mapping/storyboarding only the timing of the scenes, and see if the story you have in mind is explained correctly.

  7. I've been following this project for a few years, and have been really looked forward to it.

As far as animation. It doesn't feel like the idea of "forces" is quite realized. I see a lot of movement just for movements sake. For instance, the hair sometimes waves to some rhythm, but I don't have a sense of breeze direction (or body forces) acting against the hair. It feels like it's just waving because some trigonometric function is telling it to wave.

A lot of the movement feels like it is hitting walls.

The 3d cell shading doesn't feel right either, especially for the bike. It feels like it was just slapped on, with the outlines swimming over the objects for no apparent reason.

(also starting the video after a minute of watching credits to me feels too much).
