Developer Meeting Notes, September 23, 2012

11

With Blender in BCon4 (preparing for release, only fixing crucial issues), it looks like RC2 will be released tomorrow.

Ton Roosendaal writes:

Hi all,

Here's a summary of topics of today's developers meeting in irc.freenode.net, #blendercoders

1) Blender 2.64 release

  • Release Candidate RC1 goes ok, but tracker is still at 240 open (but a lot of fixes were done).
  • Proposal: we do another RC2 tuesday, which also will be copied for the Project Mango DVDs. Next sunday we then do the final call for a release.
  • Release log is updating very well (thanks Brecht van Lommel!).
  • Still need docs for compositor nodes, can Jeroen Bakker check?
  • Are there going to be game engine docs?
  • Reminder: Blender is in BCON4, which means only do the essential fixing, lots of testing and write docs!

2) Other projects

  • Wacom sent a couple of Intuos5 Touch tablets, Ton will seed two to developers. Anyone wants one sent over for free? Mail me your story why you'll use it well for Blender :)
  • Note everyone: this wednesday - 26 September - we'll release project Mango (Tears of Steel) at the web!

Thanks,

-Ton-

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. the news is awesome! thanks Ton, but I am wondering about 240 bugs.... will they gonna be fixed? the number is really big and I am looking forward for them :D . cycles and some other features are really young and as you can guess, blender will be really "baked a professional 3D tool" hehehhe :D I am cant wait to see it, see you,

  2. Great , can't wait...
hmm. I hate to tell you , What is "BCon4"? where website for BCon4? What it stand for?
look like Bacon to me. mmm
    sorry guy!

  3. I love the blender release cycle!

I can imagine in the next few years that other companies will adopt something like it in an attempt to catch up to Blender after they see it speeding by...

  4. I wonder when we'll see the various GSoC projects merged and released? I'm really looking forward to playing with the Blender Player on Android and the new nodal logic system for the game engine (assuming they passed... Dear $DIETY, please let them have passed...)

  5. Firstly, let me say a big thanks to Ton. Its really nice to be able to know where the development have arrived each week its really great of them to do so.

Then really big thank to the all team for their hard work. I said it before but even if I have to wait 3 or 4 more weeks to get 2.64. I do not mind too much. But that's only me.

One little thing. It would be really great that the wiki for 2.6x be updated a bit more. I know its a big work to do it. But it would be of such a great help to all the users.
