I have been working on and off to complete this short film, before my kids grow up and become dissilusioned with their Dad! During the post production process Mango happened and many of the compositing tools matured for me to take advantage of them.

The VSE has gone from strength to strength as well, with many more scripts available as addons to enhance this under used tool.

Editing, sound post(!) and VFX all created in Blender using compositing tools from Mango development.

While the masking could've been done a littlebit better, I enjoyed this short - it's amazing to see productions like this popping up all of a sudden.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. @97147cc9401486af0f2dcf7a29784454:disqus OH yeah, what a great idea! I wanted to get even decent contract shadows but gave up. I tried just to make all this stuff in 2D, except for the titles. I'm wondering how much of a traditional effects movie I could make with out typical CGI? maybe model spaceships in the next one?
