Friday Hangout - Mini Contest!

96

One of the most brilliant challenges in the Blender community ever was the Cube modeling challenge: take 10 (or less) cuboids and model something. Tonight (or the rest of the weekend), we're going to re-do this one. Read the full challenge rules on BlenderArtists and post your work here in the comments (just use the URL of the image in your comment and the image will be displayed - whoops, Disqus broke that! - whoops, they kinda fixed it already). Use the new comment voting feature to vote for the best work. The winner earns a spot on the BlenderNation homepage on Monday morning. Enjoy! :-)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I shall do this! Tomorrow... or the day after that... or maybe... oh wait it ends Sunday doesn't it :( I'll get something in sometime even if after the contest after all it should be fun.

Hmm. Judges ruling on this one? I'm not sure if the "overlapping flat planes" counts as "no intersections". If this one counts, I'm going to request that I be allowed to do a piece with slight trapezoidal tapering on my rectangular blocks.

Oops, wrong entry. I meant the one by MillionthVector, but since mine runs afoul, can you delete mine? The new version of Disqus dashboard does not have the "delete" feature or I'd do it myself.

They don't overlap, but I did use environment lighting instead of AO, they kinda look the same though.

Actually, I have another idea. How about an optical illusion, where I use perspective to imitate angles? I can include both an orthographic and perspective view to demonstrate staying within the rules.

Wouldn't think so, the rules said to keep the lighting generic, and that AO and soft lights are okay.

Bart, please delete my entry and all my comments in this thread except for this one. I will have to catch this contest the next time around as it's already too late this time. I have decided how to go about it and will have it ready to go whenever the next round is.
