Michalis Gkiokas explains how to work with Blender's image stabilizer. Very useful stuff, with a good result!

Michalis writes:

Hello Everyone. This is a tutorial about camera stabilisation in Blender 2.63.

Camera Stabilisation allow us to cancel the shaking of the camera in the post production and even control it the way the director would want.

I love the format of this video where you can see the instructor. It gives it a much more personal touch, and is very helpful when someone's using gestures to explain something. We should see more of those!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Could you please make a tutorial how to use tracking and masks. The Tomato Branch, at least, has a mask tracking option, but I have not found tutorials how to use it.

    • You should buy Blend Match Track then from Blender.org.  Everything you need to know and it helps the Blender Foundation as well when you buy from the store.  I'm still going through mine and it is very thorough as Sebastian is one of the best Blender tut makers.  I highly recommend it.

      • Unlikely.

From blender.org about Blend Match Track: "This DVD is using Blender 2.62."
Therefore, it does not have the new "Mask editing" option in the Movie Clip Editor in the Tomato Branch.

        • Oh, yah, if your talking about the masking thing (like it looks now that I read it more carefully) then no. It doesn't.

    • It seems Greeks are into open source movement in general

  2. Thanks so much for this awesome tutorial. It was crystal clear and it explained a lot of things I didn't understand before.

  3. Ditto.  Very useful explanations of a very useful too.  Now I know what to do with my shaky home videos.
