GreenButton Renderfarm Updates for Blender 2.63

14

The GreenButton renderfarm has updated their platform and Blender add-on to the latest Blender version.

GreenButton writes:

We have recently completed some updates to our Blender add-on; all of these plugins have now been updated for Blender 2.63. This update includes some new service upgrades to make asset upload and redirection more robust. We have also added experimental support for uploading simulation caches to the cloud (currently Windows only).

These changes make older plugins incompatible with our system; all our customers will need to upgrade their plugins to version 1.8.

If you wish to use our plugin with an alternative version of Blender (e.g. 2.61/2.62) please contact us and we can help you with this.

Support for LuxRender will be suspended pending the stable release of version 1.0. Once released, we will resume support for LuxRender from within Blender 2.6x. If you have a commercial need for LuxRender support then please contact us.

We are also dropping support for Blender 2.49 due to limitations in its python api, lack of further development and drop-off in customer demand.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. @roofoo : you beat me! I was going to ask the same question. Network rendering is not much compatible with GPU, but as Cycles also works on CPU, it would be interesting to know.

  2. Hi all,

Thanks for your interest in our cloud rendering service. Yes we do support Cycles, if you have any questions or would like to find out more about our service, please contact us and one of the team will be happy to answer any questions you have.

        Hi Bart,

I'm the CTO at GreenButton and I should add some clarification. The current Blender deployment is in Windows Azure which doesn't support GPUs today. We do also support Amazon Web Services (and other platforms) that have GPU capabilities so it would be a matter of us deploying Blender to one of those platforms.

So, in theory - yes. If you have a commercial need for this then we can certainly look to push this along.

        All the best.

        Dave

        • Hi Dave,

thank you for your reaction. I don't have an immediate commercial need, but Cycles is becoming very popular, and GPU rendering could decrease the rendering price. It might be an interesting feature to add.
          Cheers,

          Bart

  3. Nice!  I'll definitely be using this soon!  Got a big game project I'm working on, and I'll need the extra computational power to help me render my game's cinematics (it's darn-near impossible to render a complex animation in good time and use a game engine at the same time!).

Sounds great!. Let us know when you want to run some tests. We love working on real projects with our customers and can provide personalized support to ensure everything runs through smoothly. We also love the opportunity to showcase our customer's work on our website (if this is of interest). Look forward to hearing more from you.

      Dave
