I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I really love the idea and the modeling and the rendering. Only one thing that i don't like so much in this is that i think that it needs some color correction. So almost perfect :)

  2. I think this is brilliant. I especially like the girls expression. I think it really makes the scene, very well done Nita. Perfect.

  3. Fantastic.. every part of the image contributes to tell a story. From her expression to the heart shaped bokeh in the back..

  4. That's the winner of BlenderGuru's "The Perfect Holiday" competition.
Can't post link because their server is currently under maintenance :S

Nice image! Interesting story... Two nit-picky stuff:
    1) horse is too perfect, maybe with some more visual information on the texture (but not too much that it attracts attention!),
    2) the balloons transparencies are inverted, aren't they? I believe they should be more transparent on the centre and gain opacity to the edges (that caught my eye and broke the illusion)...
Anyway, loved the concept and also the final render!!!

    !WOW WOW WOW!

    This is Pixar quality!!!

I actually thought this was Jessie from Toy Story until I saw she was too short. Haha.

I've read the criticism above and can't agree with it - the horse isn't 'too perfect' - it IS perfect (and should BE - plastic horses on carousel rides are perfect even in real life - and more so in a toony world!), and the balloons certainly do not break the illusion for me - on the contrary they add a necessary touch of imperfect naturalism/realism against the toon like gradients of the horse and defocussed/flat colours of the background hearts - actually drawing my attention towards the girls facial expression. BRILLIANTLY composed!

And regarding the colour saturation - WOW- I can really imagine this being a printed photo, perhaps one that has aged/yellowed a little over the years from exposure to light, or just a moment in time capturing that magical mix of light only found at fairgrounds, or even a postcard that's only missing the name of the fair to be imposed over the hearts on the left-side.

On a less defensive positive note - I could comment at length about the perfect facial expression of the girl, the horse, the balloons demonstrating her movement by flying out from behind her, etc etc! But why bother?! I just want to keep looking at this art and appreciating how simply brilliant it is!

Though the subject may appear simple, this is possibly the best work I've ever seen with Blender, due to your masterful control of the complex colour, lighting and movement in the scene.

If you don't have ambition to start your own Pixar - send this to them NOW - I hope they have the sense to hire you.

Whatever you do - please make a short based on this! (The balloons pull the girl off the horse to float over/through the fairground before landing back on the horse, or the horse takes off from the carousel with the girl, jumping and dashing through the fairground before returning to its carousel, ... all whilst her parents blinked! I'm sure you already have a story for the scene in your mind, or this work wouldn't be so strong. Whatever it is... please give us more - an animation!)

It's clear you are very talented, love your work, and that talent and love shines throughout this amazing work!

I hope you post this to http://forums.cgsociety.org/ if you haven't already.

This is work is truly GENIUS.

    Don't change a pixel!

    • oowww thank u soooooooooo much for beautiful appreciation :) and yes i have already thought of making a short of it.. i will start it soon.. and u caught it right.. i did want to make a vintage effect.. :) and yes defiantly i will try to post this to cgsociety,i don't know if they r accepting to post.. again thank u very much for encouraging.. :)

    • Excellent picture, but I don't think cgsociety foruns will accept it easily, they are sponsored by producers of proprietary software, then there are commercial interests involved.

Nita, don't let such pessimism put you off submitting to the cgsociety forums.

Blender is a frequent topic in their news forum and release announcements typically get pages of comments.

In fact, I've noticed that Blender news is generating a lot more discussion in cgsociety forums since the 2.6x interface improvements, and even turning opinions around - I'm seeing long-time posters and 'pros' become keen to check it out.

So I wouldn't be suprised if the mods there put your work in the top page banner - IF you give them the chance to see it.

Even if they don't - there's a forum dedicated to Blender works in the cgsociety forums, which will allow you to self-post your work just as you do at Blender Artists.

And posting there will at least show any visiting users of other cg apps that
such brilliant work can be done in Blender.

You can only do things in this life by... TRYING TO DO THEM, which only happens if we ignore pessimism, and break barriers - ours and sometimes others. Blender is doing this more and more each news release at cgsociety, and I'm sure your posting there would further spur this progress as well as benefit from it.

Go post there and see where it goes. Perhaps a regular reader from Pixar will see your image, and go, 'WOW!'

And good luck with your animation based on this image.

I can't wait to watch it!!

  8. hiii.. i did try to post in cg society gallery but as ark4n said.. they didnt accept it.. so as you said i have posted it in blender forum..

    here is the link http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=7326781#post7326781
