Last november I asked if you would like to meet other Blender users in your area. The number of replies was amazing - MANY people wanted to connect locally with other Blenderheads. Now it's time to actually do something about that.
I've opened a page for the Blender community at Meetup.com that'll help us plan and discover usermeetings. Here's how it works:
- You indicate you're interested in meeting people in your town or area (enter your town name in the search box on the top-right if Meetup doesn't get it right). You don't have to actually plan a meetup to do so.
- Others can join your group and suggest a location or a date for a meetup. Once you join a group you'll receive updates by email so you'll know what's going on.
- Once an actual meetup is planned, you can 'RSVP' for it so the organiser knows how many people to expect.
There are no rules for Blender usergroups - sometimes people just want to hang out, while other groups try to have a more formal programme in place with workshops and such. It's all up to you!
This information now has a fixed place on BlenderNation (see the Community > Usermeetings near YOU page), and I'll add a widget to the homepage once things start moving.
Enjoy!!

It is a pleasure to see how you manage to keep this, already excellent, blog alive and fresh Bart.

tamo ae! é de qual estado?
<3 Bart, you are too awesome sometimes.
How can i add our current Meetup group to the blender one, ours is called "Blender Po'!" its a monthly meeting that happens the first friday of every month in santiago de chile, we've kept it up for 6 months straight. :D
Add Santiago de Chile as a location and then add meetups, that should do it.
Just for curiosities sake, is there any way to merge meetups for history and membership purposes?
That's a question for Meetup support, I think.

Hi,
I'm aware of it. It's a great initiative, but not a good way to actually get in touch with people in your area and plan meetings I think. Also, I once had myself added to the map but was somehow removed later on. That didn't really give me a lot of confidence ;-)
hey [email protected] - thanks for the support - that's brilliant!

Hi, yes I'm aware of the Blender World Users map. Added myself a few times but got deleted each time - not sure why. I think that this approach is more robust and supports setting up meetups a lot better by making it easier for users to get in tough. (although the map does a better job at showing where the users actually are!)
