Interview: Jonathan Williamson

15

Paul Caggegi interviews Jonathan Williamson from Blender Cookie.

Paul Caggegi writes:

Jonathan Williamson joins me for this episode of the Process Diary for an information-packed interview, and exclusively announces a new workshop coming soon to Blender Cookie!

“What is Blender Cookie” I hear you ask? It is the Blender arm of cgcookie.com - a website launched by Wes Burke in 2008 to cater to the growing number of people who are getting into CG, be it as a hobby or professionally.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Jonathan's tutorials have been a crucial learning tool for me (along with David Ward, Andrew Price, amongst others). When i read he was a one-on-one tutor, evidently at college, it made perfect sense. It comes through in his tuts. So glad he's part of the Blender community and looking forward to see what he has to present in April!

    •  I can't follow along to david ward tutorials , i find myself getting frustrated alot when i lose track of what he has done, i think this is just me being bad at character modeling, it's a shame though because i like the way he does his tutorials, i'm just no good at keeping up.

Anybody know if there is a way to download the podcast? i tend to not listen to podcast's at the pc because i'm already in blender and find it hard to focus on something else at the same time.

      • I agree, David is a bit more difficult to follow, but I've learned heaps from him. sometime it's take a few rewind and playbacks to catch the details. It gets the job done, for me at least :)

      •  I have the downloadhelper add-on for Firefox, so I pressed play on the flash player and then grabbed the mp3.  I listened to it while waiting for the subway at 5am :)

  2. Cool.
Noticed that this is available on http://blender-podcast.org/, which is also subscribable on iTunes. Will be listening to this next time I'm stuck in traffic. :)

  3. Almost everything I have learned so far about modelling comes from Jonathan Williamson's tutorials. High quality tutorials. And Bmesh is coming !
