About the Author
Bart Veldhuizen
I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Thanks for the tutorial, its not a Blender one but with just a quick read through I think most should be able to do it. Its just a case of knowing the equivalent Blender tools and perhaps been a bit inventive and clever on some parts. I gonna try this out as a speed modelling exercises
I noticed the "crease" command he used.... Does Blender have a feature like this?
I have not read this yet but is it the same as the "mean crease" function in the transform properties?
Yes.
Crtl-E - Edge Crease.
Then just type in "1".
Press 'N' in the 3D View to reveal properties. At the top, there's a "Crease" value (0.0-1.0) that will sharpen the selected edges (edit mode only, edges must be selected).
shift + E will also crease
It's a shame that since 2.49b we don't have bevel in trunk.
Why are you using it then?
Sadly I don't. Everything above 2.49b lacks modelling tools, so I use it only for rendering.
It's trunked in BMesh if that is any consolidation that it will be there in the future.
Nice modell!
Sorry, but that's a shoddy tutorial. Badly written, laces are a cop out, no body to the leather of the boot, wrong shape around the tongue. Waste of time.
Its a waste of time if you are a paint by numbers idoit. Who follows things blindly without using their own judgement and been able to change and alter things. If he models the wrong shape around the tongue well than tweak and alter it when you model. yours.
I read Josh Robinson's 3DS max book a couple of times,(well read the pictures actually!)
and it is just good to see the workflow, he is a pro modeller for many years, so look and learn people!
What has this tutorial to do with Blender?!? no a thing. If the poster thinks otherwise, he should include other tutorials (made for other modeling tools) aswell. Or change the name of blendernation, to something like 3dnation..... but since it's called BLENDERnation, i ONLY want to see BLENDER related posts.... if i wanted tutorials for e.g. 3dmax, i would go to a site that has those.
This can be done in blender.
Gemert - New to BlenderNation? BN has been covering other non-Blender 3d apps,2d apps tutorials, etc. that may be beneficial to some blender users for as long as I've been visting. However, it's not very common. If you stick around long enough you might just find a non-blender tool/info to add to your 3d tool box that will enhance your Blender workflow. Many in the Blender community have benefited by keeping an open mind to such an approach. And you're right, Bart does think differently, fortunately! :)
How nostalgic, this is the first modeling tutorial I ever saw about 5-6 years ago when I first discovered the 3d world. How things have chanced since then! Now you should just sculpt the boots I think.
Is this pdf still around somewhere? I am really interested.
