The rise of Atlantis

A series of 'test scenes' by Tom Walks. (I know, it's just not fair).

Tom writes:

Not linked to any actual project. At first I only wanted to test the car animation using Philippe Roubal's awesome auto drive tutorial on 3d-synthesis.com. But then again I can't stop myself from doing a full video with hurricanes and giant light rays from outerspace reviving Atlantis ಠ_ಠ

So I used it to test ideas, effects, wind, underwater, etc.. see how it looks in action, and make it look like an epic teaser.

Ocean Sim modifier did the waves scene.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. love the idea, if you want to make it more high-end you could have done the scenes and renders a little bit more detailed ( i.e. creating nice advanced lensflares instead of the basic glare) but i guess thats not your point... :-)

  2. This is pretty flippin awesome for a test scene. Very impressive. Like Fabian said, you could bump up the render and detail and maybe a little more fluid movement in the car (feels stiff) and you'd probably have yourself a really great piece to show off to potential game and film employers.

    Again, great work!
