Contest: Creating a Snowman, Season 2

4

Get your snowman modeling skills on with Blender Cookie's annual snowman contest!

Wes Burke writes:

Welcome back to Season 2 of our Snowman contest here on Blender Cookie. We’ve got a bit going on, but wouldn’t miss this yearly tradition on the site.

Snowmen come in all shape and sizes; different hats, various sizes, poses and more. With the spirit of the season we thought it would be great to run our infamous Snowman contest here again on Blender Cookie called“Conjuring snow into legendary forms without using all of your mana! – Creating a Snowman Season 2”

To all whom brave the quest: you are charged with the following: Model, texture and render a snowman for the holidays to the below guidelines. Final results will be judged by these random guys we pulled off the street.

Yours truly has been invited as one of the judges (as a replacement of Blender Cookie's Gutter chicken company mascot - hmmmmm...). Looking forward to it!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. every time I see these and the shadows are gray, I cringe.  Almost every photo of snow has extremely distinct blue shadows (actually most pictures should have that, it is just more pronounced with snow).

    • Looking up images on google, it seems to be about 50/50. probably depends on the sky (cloudy or clear) and time of day. and maybe if it's within a shadow (tree, building, hill, etc.)

although, blue looks better :) more color.
