I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. The image attached to this news is *not* the original one created by the artist, but a "color corrected" version of someone else in the forum meant to improve it but made it worse (in my opinion).

Anyway, if an image is shared under an artist's name (like in this news), it should be fair to show the original image and not some manipulated version done by someone else and eventually distorting the artist's intention.

  2. I especially like the concept ,the carefully thought composition and the colors...the overall quality is excellent, imo, the textures look great and the same can be said for the soft lighting.A work of high artistic value, imho, impatiently waiting for the tutorial!!!...:-)

  3. I really realy like it, just wondering why you didnt use subsurface on the plant... But awesome work, really love the shaders you did !

  4. All in all, excellent work.
Just one observation: the leaves on the top look a bit unnatural to me (no shadows on framed canvas? lack of SSS?, I cannot guess better).

  5. Hi all !
Thanks for the comments ! I agree, the major issue in this render is the plant, but as I said in the tutorial ( a french interior design magazine), plants are my weakness.

This render is from my works. I've made it for a magazine, to make better know Blender & Yafaray for professionals in France, that's my goal. So, that's the original render I made, maybe you told that because Suomi has submitted a different color-balance proposition on Yafaray's forum ( http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4455).Anyway, I am glad to be mentioned here and see that you like my work, and thank you Bart for defending.

    Best regards

    • Initially, Suomi's version was shown here, so I dropped a note and Bart thankfully changed it so now it's all correct and a great render! ;)

  7. agree with the above comments that it's a beautiful render. If i'm to pick some nits (as one is want to do) i'd say that (a) too much light on the underside of the stool and (b) the wood texture looks good but the scale is is too large. Having said that, you actually see that sort of thing in the real-life texture-mapping you find on the plastic laminate furniture and floors that i hate so much.
A humble comment on nit-picking: If I'd done a render like that, others would find giant cockroaches all over it, not just a few nits. Thanks for sharing this, it's an inspiration.
