Derrick Sesson at 3DTotal.com posted a tutorial series showcasing advanced array techniques including camera and material set-up for an experimental scene design. Enjoy.
This 10-part tutorial looks at advanced array animation in Blender:
- Part 1: I go over what the array modifier does, and how to set it up for animation
- Part 2: I cover animating our array animation
- Part 3: We continue animating our array animation
- Part 4: We finish animating our array animation and start animating the camera.
- Part 5: In this fifth part we continue animating the camera.
- Part 6: In this sixth part we continue animating the camera.
- Part 7: In this seventh part we finish animating the camera.
- Part 8: In this eighth part I show how to setup the materials and the look of the render.
- Part 9: In this ninth part we finish setting up the materials and scene look.
- Part 10: In this tenth and final part we setup the vector blur in the node editor.

Excellent ! Thanks
ouch! the array madness! love it!
This is great stuff and very inspiring. Thanks for sharing such an in-depth tutorial. I'll be using some of these techniques in the future for sure.
I'll write an addon that displays the key taps and call it screen cast.
This is a really old tutorial
And a repost at that. But it is a good, general purpose tutorial so I think it is best to let this one slide.
Are you sure it's a repost?

That's not the same tutorial.
Actually, they are. One's hosted on Vimeo, the other on Youtube, but just listen to the first 10 seconds of each's part 1 vid. =)

Sorry for arguing with you on this one Bart!
Actually, the blender test suite in svn has a similar file:
https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-blender/trunk/lib/tests/modifier_stack/array3.blend
i don't see the point here. I think the array modifier is a pain in the ass to use and could be so much cooler. Just animating some values is not cool. Maybe figure out for me how i evenly space balls on a helix (start to endpoint) without deforming the array itself (so no curve modifier). Much more cooler would be to be able to offset the animation of the individual instances, in the array modifier (cfr domino block that fall).
That's looks extremely useful! thanks for sharing this with us.
How do you think up arrays like that! That's was beautifully done. Great camera movement with the arrays to give momentum.
