Developer of the Ramen Compositor Est77 has also been busy investigating adding support for the open framework for cached geometry data Alembic, and VFX toolset library Cortex into blender. He's even released an experimental build featuring early work on support for the two libraries. Hopefully future work on the two tools will make blender a more versatile option for VFX pipelines.

Alembic will be the bomb for VFX work! It'll be vital for just about everyone; Particles, sims, lighters, compositors you name it.
The cortex libraries are also great. I really hope these kinds things like Image Engine has done (after of course ILM and Sony Image Works just to name a few) become more common. It really helps the entire community as a whole. Just look at what OpenEXR has done for this industry alone.
Edit: nvr mind

Awesome and very well timed! Could this be used in the next Blender open movie I wonder?
