This video uses Blender only as a small step in the pre-visualisation, but I thought it was inspiring enough to share:

PetaPixel writes:

Photo enthusiast Robert Simpson created this informative behind-the-scenes video detailing how he created a composite photograph showing tiny children running along a bookshelf. Although a ton of planning and preparation went into the shot, everything was done at home on a small budget rather than in a fancy studio. This may inspire you to dream a little bigger using your current resources.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    •  Hate to say it but GIMP is presently not nearly as powerful or friendly as PS. I'm actually quite impressed with how well Adobe supports their software; even though I am a total OS advocate I still much prefer using Illustrator and Photoshop over Inkscape and GIMP
