Rendering Nuts and Bolts in Blender 2.59 with Cycles

11

Learn how to model and render this scene using Cycles in this simple, step-by-step tutorial by Nikhil.

Nikhil writes:

In this tutorial, we will be looking at:

  1. How to assign materials using Node Editor
  2. Adding light shader to Objects
  3. Render the scene with Blenders new CYCLES path tracer render engine.
  4. Adding Depth of Field

this looks beautiful stuff just what I am into - as a photographer will be great to be able to work from this approach and see what can come up with - will get to view this tutorial soon this week and see how I get on so thanks so much in advance!

  2. By chance I just happen to have a very on topic problem with my nuts exercise.

    Voor een bout 8.8 is sigma m toch 800 Newton per vierkante milimeter ?Thau d = 0,6 . sigma m . fb        fb being 2/3Thau d is bijgevolg 320 N/mm carré140000/320 = 437 mm carrédat geeft diameter 23.58 mm De oplossing zou M 30 moeten zijn.Nochtans bestaat M24 en M27.

  3. What's with Cycles replacing Blender Internal? Unbiased rendering has its limits, and makes stylised rendering difficult, as well as artistic control over lighting (like needing mesh emitters). Unless Cycles will include what Blender Internal has now, does anyone care to explain?

    • I somewhat agree with you Daniel.  I think Cycles is very cool in some respects but I find all the global illumination, physically based, path tracing, photon mapping, and all the other latest rendering crazes far too slow even with GPU accelleration.

You can read Brecht's statement on why he's doing it and what he plans to achieve.  I dont know if I can post links here so just google "modernizing shading and rendering".  I agree with him that it should be somewhere in between a fast customizable old school renderer (like renderman)  and a purely physically based spectral unbiased one (like Luxrender).  Only time will tell what Cycles will become and what will become of Blender Internal.

He mentions that he also wants to keep working on the render API so that external renderers can be more integrated.  I like Yafaray.  At least there's lots of choices.  Lots of good coming from this!

    • Only names are different. All material nodes are there (actually few extra).  the word CLOSURE is replaced with "SHADER" ..
... Also, Newer build doesn't have film responses..

Tutorial is updated with these notes at respective stages.

      Cheers,
      Nikhil

  4. Am I doing something wrong? On step 5 when i'm supposed to see the tool panel to change the bolt properties, the Object Tools show up, but not the bolt properties. :( I'm using build r40422.

    • as far as i know, settings for changing nut/bolt properties will disappear once you apply any transformation to the object or any other action.
whenever you Create Bolt, first check at the left side toolbar /panel under ADD BOLT rollout..
