You can now play with Macuono's shipwright spaceship generator in your browser using WebGl. If you visit the link below you can create pseudo-randomly constructed ships generated from strings of text, using a modified version of Macuono's entoforms python code and GreyOxides library of ship parts. You can also directly order a print of your ship from shapeways.com.

that is really cool, love it - thanks for sharing
can I use it in my own commercial project?
( I think of using those generated ships after download in .wrl,
with my own textures and maybe few changes of the model )
There is no license on them - after a quick view in to the project sites - or maybe it's only me,
but still couldn't find clear statment of usage.
Time-waste alert.
Whoa! Impressive!
W, You are correct, major heavy duty super duper 'Time-waster'
Very cool. I'm impressed.
Nice work Macuono!
Amazing! Macuono.
If the ships can be generated with production-worthy textures and model parts--with far more details--this won't be considered a "time-waster."
I strongly recommend finding some talented modelers and texture artists to refine this project, Macuono, unless yours is not a violation of a patented pre-existing modelling method. :)
it says "Your browser doesn't support WebGL, and this model can not be displayed using canvas render"! any ideas how install something like that on firefox?
really nice :)
I wonder how it can be that a very short input like "a" gives models of comparable number of parts to a rather long input like adsafabnöhoijfagöonöodifbaaöozihjnRandomButtonSmashingForTheWindsag
Peter, I run it on firefox and it works fine... Not sure if I previously installed any kind of plugin, though. (If so, I already did a longer time ago)
heh, even " " (space) counts as input.
On the other hand, µ isn't recognized and you'll get a random construction.
This is really cool !
Regarding WebGL support you can try http://get.webgl.org/ .. it depends both on browser and gfx card/driver. Generally I've had best luck with chrome, but newer firefox should also work well.
That's beautiful Macouno! Congratulations!
At the moment we are typing names from everyone in our family and seeing spaceships pop up :)
great idea macouno, i love it and the dload button allows to import those little space crafts into blender and play with them.
as always you mix art and coding in pleasant and original ways!
Hey.... thanks everyone for the encouraging comments (even if my nick is misspelt hehe).
Amrid: Sure if you want to use some of the generated models in a commercial project feel free. If you want something custom/more detailed just get in touch with me... I'm for hire ;)
I'd really love to see how this is encoded...
It finds "00" but not "0".
So ideally what you need is a name for your spaceship upfront? I can recommend this generator if you can't think up your own spaceship name: http://www.scifiideas.com/spaceship-name-generator/
