After four years working on the project ‘The Golden Age 3D", it’s finally done. As of September 8th the project was live in a very nice museum. The project is about Holland in the 17th century when it was a big nation. We made 22 scenes and put them on 3D televisions ( stereo 3D) it’s very impressive. Check out the project's website.

Fantastic work, congratulation
Amazing looking stuff. In which museum is this being shown?
Wow! Impressive!
Congratulations!
M A M M A M I A ! ! !
Beautiful graphics and the film score is fantastic too! Who's the composer?
"Unavailable in your country" :( Thank you GEMA!
Wow, the art is just stunning
Can't see in Germany! Got banned because of the music.
Beautiful. It's like a living oil paint. Congratulations.
same for me :(
Impressive work.
I recognise lots of blendergurus Nature academy stuff;)
So I guess a submission to the suzzane awards then?
regards
TFS
It had a lot of stunning effects in it but the building faces looked flat, little to no depth whatsoever.
Great work.
Very impressive and i enjoyed every second.
Cheers
Stunning work. Textures and foliage were absolutely brilliant.
This is how history should be thought!
Truly stunning, and demonstrates a mastery of water effects! Many of th images would make very nice desktop wall papers!
Wow that looks amazing!
If I had one thing that bugged me was lack of life. You had trees, water, buildings, wind, etc - but no people. Felt dead.

Very impressive. One of the best blender projects I have ever seen. I very much like the mood of the graphics, the lighting and compositing. But i agree with Tadd, people would make the scenes feel more authentic.
@all germans:
Have the same problem, that link worked for me:

Wow this looks amazing, pity it wasn't released in time for the blender siggraph showreel
Awesome
Impresionante!
Saludos,
LC
Blocked for Germany. Damn it.
(due to copyright claim for the music)
@be2inas
Interesante idea, pero este trabajo lleva 4 años, entonces no creo que hayan utilization the nature academy.
Saludos
Hey all,
Thnx for all the great comments. I'm sorry for the music, it's vangalis 'alexander'
The reason that there is no life in it, is because i am horrible with that ( people) :D and 1 rule.. if you can't make it perfect, just don't do it. At this moment i'm working on the next big project ( still golden age) so if you have the skills in modeling characters and rigging, mail me !
The project is a big succes in holland, and all thnx to blender :)
p.s. and yes, i followed the nature academy, andrew price is a hero !
for more information go to http://www.thegoldenage3d.com and follow us on facebook.
AMAZING!
It couldn't be better ! Great compositions, I am still in shock. Watching these scenes on big 3D televisions would be a very pleasant experience. Thumb Up !
I fully agree with Tadd. It was beautiful, but dead. Kind of depressing.
congratulation!!!
Don't know why but I was sort of expecting to see little Alexander riding his little black horse...
What a silly question I asked. The link was there. I wish they'd provide an English website though. :)
Very beautiful, but I do have two points to make:
1. It does seem a bit empty and deserted, which takes away a bit of the magic...
2. ACK! BlenderGuru/Nature Academy overload!!! All the stuff taught in [The Nature Academy] seems to be pretty good, but I'd like to see people making stuff based on the TECHNIQUES learned in the Nature Academy, not just duplicating everything they see and adding in some custom elements... The most important thing about that kind of training is not just learning how to copy a scene off a tutorial, but how to put in to effect the base TECHNIQUES learned, so you can create not just beautiful, but original art. If people could get that one point, the Blender community could see a whole new wealth of individually inspiring and creative artwork.
But aside from that, it IS quite pretty and I especially like the ships you created. If possible, I would like to see some turntables of them for a nice general overview.
really cool, it's unbelievable that holland still looks the same!:
fantastic work guys! i'll try to see it in its full length in museums, whenever i'll go back to netherlands..
really, stunning. though, the snowy scene... snow flaskes... got me away from the mood, they seem... so CG... look at 0:49.... in the absolute beauty of the whole teaser... those tiny low-poly flakes... they stand out of the rest...
am i the only one that noticed /disturbed?
anyway i can only dream to produce such beautiful scenes, in my life
Marco
Looks fantastic, grat job! :-)
Looks like you've nicely done all the backdrops for a new blender team animation :)
TFS
read they couldn't have used the nature academy, but I think It's so similar to it that it would be impressive if it was just a coincidence.
Beautiful job! I wish more of them look more photo-real, though, since Blender is capable of that. For one thing, using more real footage for composting--rather than obvious hand-drawn matte-paintings--would have sell the shots better. On the other hand, in view of the fact that this is for a TV show--not a feature film--it's definitely a quality production Blender community can be proud of. Congrats.
-cant watch it-> DRM/GEMA issues:(
Very impressive!
I only have one question, I noticed the sky was stuck to the camera instead of moving on its own, it didn't bother me the first time watching it but the second time I watched it I noticed it.
Anyway fantastic job keep up the great work!
It makes my skin crawl, great quality ! Superb !
Please, don`t use unnessesary music in your vids. Most of the people in Germany can`t watch this (DRM/GEMA issues).
Very nice, but none of the skies moved with the camera. That took me out of it.
Very nice renderings, though, great lighting.
I wonder how many of those years were spent rendering XD
It would be nice to have given credit to the nature academy...
Andrew price work just inspire so many artists, he is really the universal Blender Guru...
The link is useless for me because of the DRM/GEMA thing, too. There are many german are Blender fans outside who can't see the vid only because of the music, what a pity. By the way, the Siggraph 2011 reel use creative commons music, so there ARE nice tracks outside to use. For the people who don't want to use "illegal" methods to see the vid, here is the similar link from blenderpedia with more free music (or not) from blenderpedia:

@Benjy: please link this one additionally
I agree with most of the comments: nice work Rob Tuytel, it's a really beautiful work and the video edition is great... but the Sky movement kills the magic at some points.
@pixnlove; "...It would be nice to have given credit to the nature academy…"
what!?... are you kidding me?... I'm sure Mr. price is capable of create good 3d art but ... give him credit for reinventing the wheel or for works he didn't made?.. or even better, for work that was started 4 years ago? Animation and 3Dart didn't start with Mr. Price
...It reminds me a comment I read some time ago in a "geek" forum:
"we all should thank you to Steve Jobs because Apple invented the internet... you know... because you cannot connect to internet without a Mac address"
;)
Beautiful! I can't imagine the research that must have gone into this. It is kind of like using Blender as a time machine.
It looks really good, but.. more like a game, not photo realism. More bump maps, displacements needed and maybe some other renderer. But it's ok.. I don't think this is a problem for this kind of project. Oh.. the most disturbing place was in the begining.. what's with those clouds? :D You can eliminate that flicker just with compositing, simple fading.
Looks very nice, good work.
If the skys don't move with the camera, isn't that just normal parallax illusion? Even in "the real world" you can drive very fast and you still won't outrun the moon, the illusion is that it stays with you wherever you go.
This is really impressive work!
It just has one little thing that bugs me: the little white glitch on the water between 1:22 and 1:23 :)
Congratulations on the art, really good! :)
and scene 0:50 too.. the rotating camera make the world make it have the edge, so the city look like on the boat.. but great work
@CGEffex @pixnlove
Thanks but I disagree that he stole or copied my work.
Rob has created some truly original scenes in this animation. There are a couple of scenes which may be similar to mine, but in all honesty the amount of extra work he's added makes it an original in my eyes. The detail in the street scenes and ships blew me away. So much work.
So well done Rob! I know how hard it can be to put something like this together, so congrats on seeing it through to completion. I look forward to seeing more work from you in the future :)
Andrew
I wouldn't say be copied you, Andrew, but I would definitely say he learned some tricks from you. ;)
@CGEffex and others
I suggest you read the description carefully: the project was started 4 years ago. Just because something looks good doesn't mean it was copied from Andrew Price. Just because you paid for training doesn't mean that in order to be good everyone must have paid.
nothing to see in Germany - banned Music :(
Thanx for the comments! about this project, the movie teaser you see is made in 1 week, so it was just a small clip to show what you can expect when you go to the museum. The teaser shows 9 scenes but there are 22 of them, just a sneak preview.
Something about the nature academy, i agree that there is a lot of work from Andrew inside it, i was a student and learned a lot of things in this course. Especially the node system, i never worked with nodes, and Andrew learned me how to use them and how to put some realism in the scene's. I never had a teacher, so it's normal that you can see a lot of andrews styles in the work.
Impressive indeed :D
But the clouds render at the beginning of the video is not so realistic. You're working on a tight deadline maybe? Not enough rendering time?
I believe blender is good enough to create realistic clouds.
Keep up the great job :)
Please don't get me wrong anyone, I love the video, and it is great blender work. I really want to say this as carefully as I can, I don't want to make anyone feel bad. I'm not saying he stole from the Nature Academy, I'm just saying some of this looks similar. Not that he stole it, but in my opinion people should really change up what they have learned to make it their own. Now there is lots of originality in here, but for the sake of the blender community, I don't want us to end up with similarities of the Nature Academy everywhere, but people employing the very base techniques they learned in it and creating a very VERY diverse range of work. It's hard to explain, and maybe it doesn't matter really, but I hope I said everything the right way because I'm not here to put down anyone for anything they made, and this is really top quality work here.
Stunning! Great work! I remember Anno, while seeing this.
and some people think that blender is a Game for kids !!
@CGEffex
Totally agree!
Great job! The only thing other than people ;) that I wanted to see was some movement in the trees. Even just rendering thos in their own layer then animating the resulting images with a rig or something. The water moving on it's own makes the static bits feel more static for me. Epic job though! Really great!
Awesome work man!
@amine: I know what Blender is, if you are replying to my post, but I meant the style of the houses. I could not watch these without thinking of this game. I'm sorry! I just wonder how many people have worked on that for how long? Because this had to be a hell of a job!
Beautiful work. Some shots remind me of Vermeer's paintings. I see the problem with the sky, too, but most people at the exhibit wouldn't notice it unless it was pointed out. I did think the waves at the beginning were a little fast, but that might just be me.
Still and excellent example of Blender work and 3D in general. You should be proud.
i'm not from Holland, but i'm sad to hear your opinion... "when it was a big nation", isn't still great, why? maybe you need a vacation in "one of those" (third rank )countries, maybe then you will realize how great your country still is, good life, my friend, your work is awesome.
Truly beautiful! This would definitely be a great setting for a third-person game...
Can't watch this in Germany... Thanks, GEMA^^
German is blocked by using commercial music. :(
I think this is actually based on the dutch city Hoorn where I live, I recognise a lot of streets and specific buildings/bridges.
Awesome work, nice use of lighting and great assets!
I would love to be able to look at the scene if it would be possible!
Wow, some scenes appear like oil paintings.
Goed bezig Rob! I've seen it on the 3D televisions the night before the opening, looks great!
The streets are changed today in this small city, but I can recognise a few locations Some of these buildings exist today and they look the same as in the movie You can criticise the small mistakes in the rendering but this is a project in progress and the goal is to put the peaces of history together and hiding thinks with tricks as lens flare and mist are not necessary
Well done and let me know if you need some help with your project.
