55

Both Blender and Sintel have won Awards from 3D Worlds annual CG Awards. Blender picked up the award for Software Update of the Year, and Sintel won for Best Short CG Animation of the Year (Short Form). Congratulations to everyone involved!

Ton's response to Blender winning the Software Update of the Year Award:

We've had many compliments for delivering this UI and tools redesign project. It's been a huge task - over three years of work - something free or open-source projects typically are advised to never even attempt! An official recognition from 3D World readers means a lot to us: thanks!

  1. We landed on the moon because humanity assembled the correct set of brillant engineers. Open Source or not anything can be done when you bring together the right brillance.

Well deserved. A+ guys. The CG world will never be the same again.

  2. Wow, so deeply proud I choose Blender as my main 3D app, congratulations yet again to the developers and the artists who forged Sintel...

  3. Blender has come such a long way since it officially became open source all those years ago! Thanks to all the developers for making such a great software possible!

  4. Blender is a wonderful peace of software who changes peoples life for the better.
It has changed mine and my sons.
No other software can be compared to Blender as it challenges some of the most expensive 3Dsoftware.
    It deserves this software Award.

Sintel... I love the art concept from David Revoy.

  5. It's amazing how blender gets better and better. Is nice to see that it receives the recognition it deserves.
Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you for sharing your efforts and your work with all of us.
    Best wishes.

  6. Thank you so much Ton and all of the developers, thank you for your great works and the great software. You guys deserve great awards. Congratulations :)

  7. It's exciting to see Blender become more recognized as a serious contender in the 3d community and a tool that can produce professional results. I remember not too long ago it was typically looked down upon or dismissed partly due to it's unusual GUI. From time to time I'd dabble in it, and welcomed the changes in 2.5. The GUI overhaul has made it more accessible, and to many people's surprise, revealed a monster hiding beneath! RAWWWRRRRR!!! :-) This is a well deserved reward. I think the real shocker will be when people cannot land that job they wanted when they find out the studio uses Blender for much of there work, and they know very little of the program or mocked it in years past :-) Kudos again for delivering such a useful tool to the hands of 3D artist!

Sintel. Huge congrats on the recognition! Another well deserved reward!

  8. YES! Richly deserved. Blender is still the only software that I can open each time with a sense of excitement, even after 7 years. And it keeps getting better.

  9. Congratulations to all the developers whose efforts made this massive update to Blender a reality.

As a further comment, I have to say that whoever chose that particular image of Ton displayed next to the "Best Software Update" award on the 3d World site is a genius. That image should be featured as part of the 2.6 flash screen. :D

  10. that's grrrreat!!!, but I hope there will be one day when "3D World Magazine CG win the blender awards"....it is just a metter of priorities....

  11. Way to go Blender 3D!!! this is just the tip of the iceberg!
Blender Foundation and the community are just starting.
I'm also waiting in anticipation for the Gooseberry project in the future.
    What will they say then?
