I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Good luck, but I do not see a beginner paying 550 Euros for a 3 day course...I don't know the exact exchange rate, but seems to me that is more or about $700 American....for 3 days....for beginners.....I think there must be a typo here.

  2. Nope, not a typo...sorry I would have chosen my words more carefully if I would have known that it is really that outrageous.....Ich finde diese preis unglaublich...

that is the las I will post on the subject, as I am certain, I started this off on a bad note...for that I apologize.

  3. @JustinBarett although I find you have a point,we should take into account that Sebastian is one of the top Blender's trainers ,out there, not just by chance...having followed his work for quite a few years now,I am sure, his introductory course will be worth the money.Of course,I am well aware of the fact that some people might need these money just for buying the necessary food for surviving, but, yet again,I find this price absolutely reasonable considering the time saver such a kick start Blender course could be.We must, also, keep in mind, the important thing,in cases like this, is not the "3 days" part of the equation but by >>> whom you will be taught during those 3 days...it is exclusively due to the fact that I cannot visit Leipzig, at those specified dates, that I am not going to participate but I can't but congratulate the lucky guys who will!

  4. good input Justin... shooting from the hip is always a good start especially when you return to add to remarks.

Actually, I think Justin realized the value associated with this training. And, it's much cheaper than alternatives from high priced software.

So... I join in with Justin to give a great round of applause to Sebastian König... he is... how should I say it in a usa way? "he's the man... baby!!!"

  5. @JustinBarret
if you compare that to the prices of the Photoshop/FinalCut prices there you will find that the Blender course is not that expensive. And I don't see why a Blender course should be so much cheaper anyway.
If you search for any professional software courses at any private teaching institute you will find that this is in fact a fairly reasonable price. For example: http://www.emagister.de/kurse_blender_3d-ek1785.htm
Also keep in mind that not only private people go to these courses but that some companies send employees there to learn Blender. And normally companies pay a lot more for training.

Still 550€ is a lot of money, that's no question.
But one part of the concept of the Leipzig School of Design is that they are an approved teaching institute, that's why students can get funding from the government for that course!

    :)

    Btw, thanks Peter & Bachnoral

  6. @ronn:
You are right when you say "instead of paying this prize for this training you better buy the Blender Book and for the rest of this money you can go on holiday (Tenerife) and read this book" :D

That is really too much money and only for the rich affordable.
AND it is more than 550 Euro because it is 550 Euro plus VAT (19%). And that are 654,50 Euro. That is nearly the same as my monthly pay (I'm student). And if you are a student or pupil, you maybe get 20% discount. But that were 523,60 Euro (included VAT).
And when you don't live in Leipzig you have to pay for a hotel too.

(Btw. Andrew Prices Nature Academy is much cheaper and you will learn much more, I think.)

There is a video tutorial for all of that ( http://www.galileodesign.de/katalog/buecher/titel/gp/titelID-2273 ) and it is under 40 Euro! You can watch it whenever you want and you can watch it how often you want. And there are also free good video tutorials on youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/user/AgenZasBrothers )

Yes, it is only for the rich, perverted -.-

  7. Just shaking my head at some of the postings. The price for 3 days of personal training is at the lower End of the spectrum. More normal for professional 3D training would be 500 Euros a day, not for three days. By the way, you will never learn as much from a book or from a tutorial than from 3 days with an experienced trainer like sebastian. Not everybody is a student and I myself have more than once paid for Training and never regreted one Euro of the money paid.

It is absolutely worth every Euro, of this I am shure and I don´t know Sebastian in person but just from his video tutorials.

  8. For a hobbyist or a student this is surely a lot of money. But for people that really want to get into it, the price is really ok. Just like Sebastian said, for companies which want their employees to get trained, it's not much money.
I paid 2.500 Euros ten years ago for one week (5 working days) of Linux Administrator training at SuSE in Munich.
And within 3 days of personal training in a small group you will definitely learn more than simply reading a book.
Let alone the fact that there is a real human being you can talk to and ask your questions.
so, i don't see any issue with the pricing. In fact i find it quite "cheap".

  9. @ron

Hey mate. Maybe this training is just not for you. But there are professional people using Blender outhere, and that price is a steal for a serious pro.

I don't understand why people complain when some product / service is out of their reach. You will never hear me complain for not being able to buy an Aston Martin. I'm not Aston's target. And I live with it.

    Just my 2 cent.

    Have a nice day!

    Dani

  10. Having taught myself using online tutorials (thanks @andrewprice) I can see the benefit in saving time by attending this course. If you are a studio then this represents a significant boost to your skillset and being handed the relevant information on workflow and techniques from the first week is priceless.

3 days is not enough, 3 years is not enough. I would imagine that this course is for Blender Beginners rather than 3D newbies.

Shame I don't have time to attend. I'm sure there's a few things I have fogotten or doing the wrong way in blender

  11. Cool, unfortunaliy i cannot take the course - 550 € for 3 Days to get a lot of Know-how is absolutely correct. Guys, Blender is free but not cheap (to learn ;-) Sebastian is an excellent Trainer i tooked a in-house course couple of months ago and it was great. Thanks.

  12. Seen some comments on the price, and to some degree I agree: 550 euro + VAT is steep, for i.e. a student.
But somehow I don't think students is what the main target for this courses is.

In reality, 550 euro (+ VAT) for 3 days is pretty cheap. You can easily find (basic) training for other3D softwares that cost more than that per DAY!

Just because Blender is free, it doesn't mean that all training for it has to be free (or cheap). If it were, it would be very hard to attract the "pro & commercial crowd".

You cant either compare a 3-day "irl" course with online training (like the nature academy), it's simply not a fair comparison (their other costs surrounding irl courses, not to mention the "availability and demand" aspect).

And remember: Much of the "training materials" for Blender is still free.

  13. ok I'm officially kinda flaming this as I see it as just plain greedy....I highly recomend to everyone...DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE......I'm curious as to why it costs so much....how much do people need to earn...I Germany is expensive, criminaly expensive, but come on guy....if you have 4 students that is still more than my monthly salary....arbeiten bei Unilux...bauen fenster und turen.....I am just a regular old worker in a fabrik....but still....ok enough....I'm out.

  14. @JustinBarrett have you considered that there is a lot of free information available to you and you are not being forced to take the course. There is a lot of preparation invloved in creating a decent course especially if covering a large amount of material. While you are welcome to your own opinion, your comments on this post are not helpful to the community. Please consider that Sebastian is a certified trainer and as such is more than capable of providing the very best quality instruction.

if you want free training then I can recommend blendtuts.com

  15. @Jiggle: thanks! :)
    @Justin:
It's funny that you seem to think that i get all the money. You know, it's not as if the school wouldn't have rent to pay, provide 12 27" computers, projector, speakers, tables, chairs, energy-bills to pay, employees to pay etc. etc. And of course i get a bit of money too, because i do that for a living. Calling that greedy is hilarious!

  16. @JustinBarrett:
Recommending not to take the course is outrageous!

I know Sebastian and he is a very good and skilled artist.
If the price is worth it, everyone has to decide on his/her own. If you don't want to afford it, then don't do it. Period.

It's not the first time Sebastian is doing such a course. I am glad that there are people out there who provide professional training for people! That benefits Blender!

We have the year 2011, it's completely fine to make fair money with services build upon Open Source!
    Deal with it!
