I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Great news! already subscribing I was also very interested in the compositor refactoring and wish more funds will help other projects. Thanks a lot Ton and all devellopers involved :-)

  2. Great news. I am glad to be a donating member to the BF knowing it will benefit many projects and their developers. Congrats.

  3. I would donate up to $1000 per year to BF if the following conditions were met:

-We entered a service contract, BF providing and invoicing for general, open source, software development services in Blender
-The money could be targeted at specific parts of Blender, Bmesh for example, or Cycles, etc.
-Use of the money transparently reported with regular updates

That's about it. I hope this becomes possible in the future. In the meantime, for subscription micro payments, services other than PayPal should be considered, like Moneybookers. I refuse to use PayPal.

  4. It sure is a good initiative. The BF has all my confidence (well at least 99% ;) ) that they'll make the good choices ant that they'll invest that money in actual development. I just pledged equivalent value of a pizza a month ,which my waistline can afford. Let's see how it goes and maybe add a couple of beers. ;)

  5. apart from development fund how much monies does bf get every month from dvd, book, donations.
i don't have a bank account or credit card but i will try to find a way to donate . anyone have any
ideas for alternative ways to donate or help out.
i almost forgot but out of curiosity how much monies is paypal getting from 1200 eur?

  6. @Businessman:
    from http://www.blender.org/blenderorg/blender-foundation/development-fund/
    "September 2011

Granted EUR 1200 to Jeroen Bakker, to complete his 10k funding target for the OpenCL compositor project.
Granted EUR 1000 to Lukas Toenne, to complete his funding target for Particle Nodes.
    October 2011

Proposals will be reviewed, announcement early October."

There are links to the projects with their projects and progress. Transparent and specific projects.

  7. I subscribed! the moment I saw it!

Bah, that Paypal discussion again?! What about focus? Maybe it's right, maybe it's wrong.

The fact is, I spend money, BF gets money.

The more permanent developers are there the more projects are getting done.

@Businessman - If you want to fund a specific project, just contact Ton directly about it. But it might be possible that 1000$ a year might not be enough to fund a whole developer.

If there are enough devs, all the can be done anyway.
