35

A first Release Candidate for Blender 2.59 has just been released. Check out the full changelog (jay!), or head straight for the download.

Note: I'm currently at SIGGRAPH in Vancouver. I'll do my best to cover breaking news such as this but posts will be a bit terser than usual.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Sounds great!

@loopduplicate: Alot of countries use comma instead of a dot on the numpad.
I live in Denmark, where it is a comma, because comma is the decimal separator in numbers.

And yes, that means that we use . as the thousand-separator instead of the comma.
so when you would write 10,030.32 in english, we write 10.030,32 in danish.

I don't know why, but it sure is great that the comma is now supported :-)

  2. @loopduplicate:
In Czech Republic we use a comma istead dot and I've been waiting for this feature for a long time because it's really pain in the ass to allways use the dot-key under L-key:)
    Great to have it now:)

  3. @loopduplicate: yes, e.g. german keyboard layout...

    @blender developers:
"fix [#27850] keyboards with a comma instead of a dot on the numpad now get converted to a dot when typing into number buttons, for easier number entry - r38080"

but why i blender translating the Numpad Comma into a Dot...
why is blender's UI not using the different "Region and Language" culture settings of the OS?
the settings are also defining the numberformats of the UI.
e.g. in case of germany there are comma instead of dots (1,00 in german; 1.00 in english).
if the UI of blender is using the region culture settings correctly, then there is no need to convert a num Comma "keystroke" into a dot in the UI - internal the "culture"-functionallity will convert the different culture specific formats to the internal native format.

  4. Sweetness!! I'm so glad to see the 3D Mouse support and I really appreciate the Custom Keymaps feature. And I've really got to try out this Grease Scatter Addon feature!

We're getting closer to that final release! I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to SIGGRAPH!

  5. i am soooooo happy, that i can now use my 3D SpaceNav (3D Mouse) again...

for more than a year, i was using my spaceNav only as paperwight, because blender 2.5 wasn't supporting it.

but now blender 2.59 can ... thank you very much !!!!

  6. According to wikipedia: "in much of Europe, Southern Africa and Latin America ... the comma is used as a decimal separator, equivalent to the use in English of the decimal point."

  7. You've got to be kidding. Space Nav is not working in the Mac version? I am halfway home from work already. Sickday and everything.

    Thats just not right.

    Ahhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrr

  8. When ever i try to user the user preferences on the new blender it always crashes. A window will pop up and says the blender stopped working.

  9. I wave my arms in a sweeping downward arc while bowing deeply in the direction of all the talented programmers who invest so much of their effort and life into creating this grand, noble and utterly wonderful software project of BLENDER. I enjoy it so much.

    Thank. Seriously.

  10. Doe,
It worked in one of the builds from Graphicall.org, but unless I'm missing something, it's not working in this build...

  11. Hi,
good news. Anybody can explain or refer some working link about what is the purpose of Grase Scatter Addon?

I've done a quick test, but as I don't know the exact purpose besides scattering something, I don't know too what exactly to expect.

I'm aware of thorus objects created and the need to have a group and so. What I mean is that the problem isn't the addon itself, under my experience.

Thanks if someone could post some clues...

  12. O.T. Why in the hell does still exist this comma/dot ambiguity in 2011? If we (world) want to evolve, we should get rid of all this crap and come at least to an agreement about these trivial issues!!! Unbelievable!!!

  13. I'm trying the grease scatter but with no luck.. I can't understand how to use it.

I hope for the stable release, they release also a mini tutorial how to use it.

  14. WoW.

"make tree" is simply stunning in its setup and customizing...
...and no curves have to be placed prior to generating (i.e. zero).

Ivy seems just as radical to a workflow.
Coming up with textures seems like the hardest part, because everything else is placed already.

    Thanks to the plant-people!

  15. Don´t worry..
OSX will get an already das support for space navigator and co.
There is just an little bug preventing to have it included for both
    situations w/wo Drives installed.

If the issue can´t be solved for release, there will be just separate
builds w/wo 3DConexion supprt, but i still hope to workaround that
    and get the builds universal.

    Jens

  16. Don´t worry, Spacenavigator support for MacOSX is ready. Just a last glitch to fix
to not need separate builds w/wo, but have universal detecting the presence of
    drivers and activate them.

    Jens
