I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. nice!
    This could come in handy for mud/blood smears, or car scrapes n skids, or slime trails, or black-cauldron stirring or abstract trance videos...or butter fights.

  2. Tadd:
    Imagine a guy, writing with a pen, or something :)
    You could make him IK-follow a curve along the paper, the tip of the pen being a paint object.
    Then, whoops, he touches the not yet dry ink and smudges it.

    I'm sure, there are other examples like that, as well.

  3. WooW - realy impressive.

    And the best part it's possible to drive it via particles.
    making paint smear by rain.

    +++ Thumbs UP =)

    I wanted to do things like dynamic paint some years ago in 3ds Max, and never did find a way to get the results I wanted. You would not believe how happy this makes me to see exactly what I was hoping for those years past in Blender. :)

  5. @Tadd: The usefulness of tools is not in their inherit ability but in what the artist can dream to utilize them for.

    Imagine a grey, sad robot infiltrates a land of happy, yellow robots by painting himself yellow. He enjoys himself amongst the populous up until the day that rain looms over head. Without thinking about it he's caught in the torrential downpour and the paint begins to run off and wash away. He is exposed for what he is but those in the village accept him anyways for who he is and not for whether he fits in.

    And that was just off the top of my head.
