"Important Things" is a 3D animated short film which intends to tell a story that emphasizes the vision of caring for the important things.
The project has three objectives.
- The first is to tell a good story showing technical and artistic quality.
- The second is to define a production process to facilitate the creation of future projects.
- The third is to divulge this production process with the intention to help novice producers and to receive information input from producers which dominate other areas to improve this process for everybody.
For the realization of the project a group of active professionals from different areas was selected, some of them producers on their own account, which form a team where everybody contributes his/her experiences as professional.

Sweet. Watched the trailer. Looks like a lot of useful info. Just really wished there was some English. Oh well.
The characterisation is interesting, but the movements should be more fluid. Anticipation is the key, if you closely observe body movements, the limbs move altogether to perform several actions at once, not in a sequence of distinct steps. Easier written down than done, I convene, and that's why this project sounds promising.
Is it made entirely in Blender? Or does it use other softwares, such as AfterEffects for compositing, etc.?
The characterisation is interesting, but the movements should be more fluid. Anticipation is key. If you closely observe body movements, you will see that the limbs move altogether to perform a sequence of actions, no distinct steps are visible (e.g. in walking and grabbing a hat action, the arms and hands move towards the hat while walking and getting closer to the hat). Easier written down than done, but this is why this project sounds promising.
Incredible!
@natinja They say on the blog that this is a first blocking of animation, so it's not final yet.
First of all thanks for the comments.
The interest in our proyect is encouraging. We hope we can accomplish our aims and return as much useful information to the Blender community as we would like.
As soon as we finish the code and all the models will be published on Blender Swap.
If you need more specific information on the project development contact us under [email protected] we will be pleased to answer your questions - anyway we try to publish every advance in our blog: http://www.importantthingsmovie.org/
Here some responses:
@NateThe Green: Its true that there is no content in English by now. We are developing the project in the Spanish community as the team is situated here. Anyway thank you for the comment and we will, from now on, try to publish all further information also in english to give access also to non-spanish speaking Blender artists.
@Aldi: It is entirely made in Blender 2.581. Even compositing.
@natinja + zecc: It is as Zecc mentioned. This Gag video is a first blocking of animation, a test of the shader. But we liked it so much that we decided to publish it.
NateTheGreat,
I used Google translate on the url, and it worked very well. Very good information.
Why shouldent this be possible with blender alone?
They did do it with Blender alone.
Wow, great work and thanks for the link to the production blog. I love seeing other people's workflow.
¡Me gusta mucho!
An inspirational project. Looking forward to seeing more.
Gracias por compartir.
