Camera tracking integration - 2D stabilization

12

Do you need your footage stabilized? Sure, Blender will be able to take care of that in a near future! Sergey demonstrates an upcoming feature to the camera tracker - please note that this is not available in SVN yet, and therefore you won't find a build with this feature on GraphicAll yet. Patience, young grasshopper!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Blender IS GOING TO BE AWESOME even MORE :D:D
I really LOVE the tracker, for both the stabeliser and the tracker himself!
This is going to attract a lot of people to blender 3D :P

  2. what would be cool would be to have the 2d stabilitzation as a modifier for the camera movement (parallel to the plane of the images), so one could set the percentage of stabilitzation for the shot, even one could add multiple stabilitzations and could change the diferent percentages so multiple tracked objects could be followed at diferent times during the animation.

  3. I laughed at "and as always, have a nice day" fps Russia FTW

but in all seriousness this is some great work. I would just like to see bake to f-curve come back.(until a better 2d tracking method develops, its better than nothing)

  4. For what I know, any 2D image stabilization system ( Electronic as well as optical built in to camera, or software ) modifies parallax and destroys 3D data, making 3D tracking and reconstruction difficult, inaccurate or even often impossible.

So, it is necessary to take video shots for matchmoving with the camera built-in stabilizer disabled. Best results are achieved by using a mechanical stabilizer like a Steadycam, Or a Steadycam Merlin (very efficient light hand held Steadycam for small camcorders from 250g to 2.5kg).

SynthEyes has its own 3D stabilizer, keeping intact 3D data. I hope that Blender will use this kind of computing method for its stabilizer.

  5. very cool stuff ! thank you...
question: is it also able to stabilize position AND rol (rotation in the view axis) of the camera...?
in the video you stabilized the "wiggle" of the picture, but there is still rolling wiggles to see... i don't know how to say it correctly - but i hope you understand, what i mean.

  6. it will be a true replacement of After Effects once this awesome developers put in features for green screens!

  7. is it possible to export the camera tracking to an external file, so it could be used to split a movie into similar motion trunks ?
