Head over to the MakeHuman website, in case you would like to test out the new macro-expressions they are developing and testing right now for the next MakeHuman release. In addition they also updated their exporter so it can generate a MHX Rigify checked character which works seamlessly together with Nathan Vegdahl's Rigify Add-On. Deformation has been improved by adding extra deformation bones. It is definitely not perfect, but the most awkward defects are gone.
The interface offers now sliders for facial expression generations. Based on what part of the face you work on, the expression options you can adjust will change accordingly. The areas you can work on are quite many. Besides the usual eye, mouth, nose, options you can also work the throat muscles as an example.

Thanks for the article.
Please consider it's just a test, and at the moment the expressions are optimised for caucasian male only. We need more modelling work in order to complete it for all genders, ages and ethnic groups.
Very nice, I'd read about this from the rss feed, but hadn't seen the pictures. It will take some work to get the neck muscles looking right, but even what there is now puts the MakeHuman model a step ahead of Poser/Daz3d. Keep up the good work MakeHuman team!
Makehuman = Mind bogglingly cool free open source tool.
I still can't believe I can just download Blender and Makehuman and throw together a "quick human animation" and I first tried Makehuman over a year ago. I love open source. Thanks dudes!

Yep! I pretty much use MH for all of my characters.
Even my A132 robot.
Is it just me or does the “sad” face look more like “wtf are you talking about” expression ? ;D
Posing -> Expression -> Happy :)
Good job! Keep it up, guys!
Hi! Very Nice! But I have some bugs with the export tool that doesn't work for the nightly build. Can't Export
This looks very nice. How hard would it be to get a makehuman model animated and working in UDK?
